Have you ever wondered why ED-E could never tune-in to the local radio stations despite practically being a flying radio?  Hell, he even receives a radio transmission during his quest.  Well wonder no more, as now ED-E can be the radio you always wanted him to be!

Description:

This mod adds several dialogue options to ED-E allowing him to play either of the local Mojave radio stations or a third player selected station.  Just initiate dialogue with him and select either "Tune RNV" (Radio New Vegas) or "Tune MMR" (Mojave Music Radio).  Once you're done, just tell him to disable his radio transceiver.  To set your own station, look below.

The Lonesome Road ED-E is not affected by this mod.  If anyone wants a version of the mod that add this radio ability to the Lonesome Road ED-E, please let me know.

Setting a Custom Station:

1) Find the ID of the activator reference for the desired radio station.

  • For example, Black Mountain Radio is 000E6188,  Old World Blues' Mysterious Broadcast is XX013654 and CONELRAD is XX031FF0.  Replace "XX" with the load order of the mod/DLC.

  • To use a mod radio station you can either ask the mod author for the reference ID or find it yourself using Fallout Mod Manger.  Look in the images section for a set of pictorial instructions (coming soon).  They assume that you have Fallout Mod Manger installed and are at least slightly familiar with it's use.

  • Please note:
        (1) Tuning a radio station that plays just static (ie. is disabled) will result in ED-E producing a static sound until the game is restarted.
        (2) Using the ID of something that isn't an activator reference for a radio station will result in the custom station doing absolutely nothing.

2) If you have the latest NVSE, ED-E will have a dialogue option to "set Tuner Frequency".
Just type the reference Id into the given box and press OK.  See Images for an example.

  • If successful, you will get a message stating that the frequency was set.  ED-E should now be able to tune an "Unknown Broadcast" which will play your selected radio station.

  • If you enter an invalid reference ID, you will get a warning and the option to tune the custom radio station will be disabled until you enter a proper reference ID.  Please note that the mod does not distinguish whether or not the reference ID belongs to a radio station.  If it does not, the the custom station will do absolutely nothing.

  • Using this option will cause the player's name in the pip-boy stats screen to show the radio reference ID until the game is saved and reloaded or restarted.  This has no affect on the other places in the game where the player's name is used.

OR

2) If you don't have NVSE, open the console and type {set "XX000ADD".EDERadioCustomStation to "YY000000"} without the {} but including the quotes.

  • Replace "XX" with the load order position of this mod and "YY000000" with the form ID of the activator reference for the desired radio station.

3) Then type {set "XX000ADD".EDERadioCustomStationEnable to 1} without the {} but including the quotes.

  • Replace "XX" with the load order position of this mod
  • ED-E should now be able to tune an "Unknown Broadcast" which will play your selected radio station.
  • You can change this custom station at any time. Just make sure ED-E's radio is off (or at least not tuned to the custom station), otherwise he'll be stuck playing that radio station forever.
  • See Images for an example.

Requirements:

  • A working copy of New Vegas
  • The ability to install mods
  • The desire to have ED-E function as a radio
  • (optional) NVSE version 4.1 or higher- Get it at nvse.silverlock.org

Nexus Mod Manager (NMM)-
  • Select "Download with Manager" and NMM should open.

Nexus Mod Manager (NMM)-

  • Select 'ED-E Radio' and press "Deactivate".
  • All done.

Fallout Mod Manager (FOMM)-
  • Launch FOMM and open the package manager.
  • Select 'ED-E Radio' and press "Deactivate".
  • All done.

Manual-
  • Delete 'ED-E Radio.esp' from Data and the 'ED-E Radio.esp' folder from Data\Sound\voice\
  • All done.

Compatibility:

This mod should have no compatibility issues.  It uses a quest to add dialogue lines to be spoken by anything with ED-E's voice type and does not modify any vanilla assets.  Also, I play with around 100 mods and have found no issues so far.

Known Bugs/Issues:

  • [BUG] Tuning a radio station that plays just static (ie. is disabled) will result in ED-E producing a static sound until the game is restarted. No Idea how to fix.
  • [BUG] Using the NVSE station set method causes the player's name in the pip-boy stats screen to show the radio reference ID.  This only affects the pip-boy, the player's name is still what it was before.  Just save and reload to make the pipboy read the correct name again.
  • ED-E can receive Mojave radio stations while outside of the Mojave.  If this bugs enough people, I'll look into changing it.

Questions, Bugs, Problems, Help and Info:

If you find any bugs or have any trouble with this mod, let me know and I'll do my best to help.

*If you've gotten ED-E stuck playing a radio station, either through uninstalling the mod, or by changing the custom station while it's playing, it's possible to fix this using the console.  Simply open the console and click on ED-E so that his name and ID are shown in the top of the screen.  Then type:
{SetNPCRadio 0 XXXXXXXX} with no {} and replacing "XXXXXXXX" with the reference ID of the radio station he's stuck with.
