I wasn't sure how to cleanly make bows and crossbows pick up new ammo types and he has a great method in his mod that I used.
Go check out Glass Arrows, it's definitely a better-made mod for mid-late game arrow options.

This mod adds bone arrows. Also bone arrowheads, recipes for both, and adds bone arrows/bolts/heads to some low-level loot tables. One bone crafts three arrowheads, you can't scrap any of it, and it's not valuable to traders. Just a different use for bones, particularly for early game.
Are these better than stone arrows?
Yeah.
Are these better than iron arrows?
Nah. They do 20% less damage, but add up to 3 bleed stacks with no slowdown effect.
Are there bolts?
Oh, yeah I should do those too. Sure, there are now. Because you asked.
Can I use it on a server?
There is an optional XML modlet. The arrows, bolts, and arrowheads, are just iron versions tinted bone white-ish.
Can I use it in my mod/modpack?
Yeah.

Shout out to the Glass Arrows mod and RyanFaeScotland. I go through a lot of different mods to figure out how stuff is done, and I wasn't sure where to tell bows that these are viable ammo.
Tbh, it's a better made mod that does more than mine, so you should probably go pick that one up as well.
