That Ogrim!

  • Comment
If you are one of those who are thinking "Bah! The design in ESO is nothing like an Elder Scrolls game should have!", then you might want to reconsider... Just look at that Ogrim!

And in other (belated) news... have you checked your e-mail lately? The second batch of beta invitations for ESO was sent out yesterday and today (unless today is not yet today, and they still haven't sent them out..! please please please!)

Oh, and while we're at it, if you haven't checked out the latest "Ask Us Anything", you might want to read it - it has some interesting info.

I realize some of you may not know what an Ogrim really is, and why it is in ESO (Shame on you!), so here is one from Morrowind:

I'm not saying that the game is nothing like an Elder Scrolls game should be. I will say though that it looks like an updated version of WOW and I find it's visual aesthetic so childish (like most MMOs) that I would never even consider playing it.

-EDIT- I play a lot of MMOs. I just don't play cartoony MMOs.

I've never been a fan of MMO's, and I think that even having TES as a multiplayer would ruin it IMO. TES has always been a single player experience and should stay that way. It's what Bethesda are best at.

"Bah! The design in ESO is nothing like an Elder Scrolls game should have!"

And still isnt, absolutely. But its not just about the design, it is everything in general. This is not Elder scrolls. Its a random Mmo with the lore of it.

Zenimax, go to hell. Im sorry.

For all the complaints here, the game is still in production so it is still a bit early to say if you really hate the game and it sucks without even trying it out in the first place

it might be but what we already know  is for  alot of the fans very dissapointing
Do we still remember the sceptism the industry had when they first anounced ESO , well that didn't go away contrary  even became more sceptical as more information came available

If people want to assume that the game will be awesome  because it has  The elder scrolls stamped on it than let them dream on , ESO  will bring nothing new  on the MMO market  since everything they are using   already exsisted and they only bought the licence for it , the game developers  calling it open ended  even tho  you have to ask yourself what open end if you  are  restricting the players  to one faction  only depending on your  race and when 2/3 of the map is actually off limit to you  not even a End game  so you basicly stuck endlessly grinding  dungons after dungons , with no storyline or purpose what so ever , , wait  you said to become emperor ,or atleast to make someone emperor ,  ok and what is in it for me ??  nothing  and lets  be honest  i have no onterest what so ever to make some metagamer who is most likely a 30 year old dude who is living in his mother  basement and divides his time vetween playing games and watching porn
and when  you are stucked with  predetermined classes , yes they said they might change it but obvious they didn't , and now we   going to get stuck with 4 predictable classes ,  the tank the mage, the healer and the rogue  each with their own very predictable playstyles
probably fall flat on its face in 6 months and go into maintance mode in a year ,

the fans  asked  for years to develop TES in a multiplayer game were they and a few friends could enjoy  tamriel  they certainly  never asked that they turned a failed MMO concept into TES

I don't see what the problem of being locked out of a large portion of Tamriel is, The last 3 games had the player stuck in one particular country. The only ones that really allowed the player to be able to really explore Tamriel were Arena and then down to two with Daggerfall.

The Race and Faction thing I agree and is nothing new and a bit too reminiscent of World of Warcraft to me and a lot of other things, cant there be an MMO where players are all on the same side fighting for the same cause? (I am sure there are, but I am not really into MMO games so I don't know that many).

End game stuff well its still in development so we don't know what they have planned, but honestly though even in the single player one like Oblivion and Skyrim, there really is not much left do once you complete all the quests, become the lord of every faction, master every skill, etc. there really is nothing left to do but kill more stuff or in the case of Skyrim keep repeating radiant quests.

The Emperor thing, yeah I am not cool with that, I don't trust putting a player on the Throne things are going to get real screwed up (I am sure there will be an aspiring Emperor whose 1st decree would be Lusty Argonian Maids for everybody). I am also not sure if I like the time traveling part where you get to see past event.

Classes well the previous games also had character classes which had predetermined skills which you would be good at, sure you could work on those skills your class is not good at, but working on some like Destruction, Armor type or Weapon Type could be a hassle if you try it late game.

Overall I think its still too early to say if it sucks or Best Game Ever.

I've no idea what is worse, pre-release hype of a game, or pre-bashing of one. Meh.

You'd think simply making another Elder Scrolls game with online capabilities would leave the fans happy.

Is very Impressive however, although the Elder Scrolls Online is very good (Details and etc.) the downside being "if only they put as much effort into Skyrim as they did the online elderscrolls.

Yeah, I looked at it. My first thought was: "Bah! The design in ESO is nothing like an Elder Scrolls game should have!"

Baby-Ogres and WoW-Orcs won't do it for me, sorry. But you have fun with it. I'll give ESO a try when it goes free to play three months before it descents into the void of complete irrelevance.

Wow, cynic much? Personally, I lost confidence in you when you said "WoW Orcs." You're STILL referencing that screenshot? STILL? If you had watched any of the latest vids, you would have seen that the orcs are NORMAL. Quite Skyrim-esque. Don't bash games that you obviously haven't been keeping up-to-date tabs on.

      ps: here's said video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hD-t_GvYBv4

Don't reply just to defend a game that you like. No game needs to be defended. It's just as pathetic as console wars. And I didn't "bash" any game, I just didn't follow the "oh my god look at that gorgeous ogre!"-mentality triggered in the blog entry and gave my opintion. After all, that's what comment sections are for.

If you don't like my opinion, that's fine with me. If you are confident enough, it won't have any effect on your gaming experience anyway.

After watching your linked video, I still don't like the art / design choice of the game (especially the generic elves), nor the whole concept. U mad now?

No I am only mad when you make statements that contradict publicly available information. And given that WoW is such a stigma I believe that can count as an outright buzzword, no? And I don't know if I like the game seeing as how I haven't played it. But I defended it because you slandered it, attacking it with false information. That happens too much on the internet. And that does irk me. I don't mind you not liking it. But please make sure that you are referring to "it" and not some strawman.

That was why I responded. Principle. Even on the internetz, there should be some common courtesy. And one aspect is doing your due diligence before slamming something (equating something with a stigma-tainted game and then declaring it will fade into the void of obscurity is a slam)

In your terms it is a "slam". In my terms it is common sense. Apart of that, your accusation of slamming is based purely on your interpretation. For all you know, "WoW-Orc" doesn't actually have to be a pejorative term. I simply may gathered a similarity in the art design of ESO compared to already established mmo-franchises, which I don't happen to like. And it's not even the only one. That doesn't mean, that it's bad in a general sense. Hence the "doesn't work for me".

As for the baby ogrim.. - well, I seem to be not the only one who sees this. So it's more of an observation, either.

We'll eventually see who's right about the "void of irrelevance" part, once it gets free to play. Oh, sorry - once that remarkably different game will rule the market big time of course!

But in the end, you are just really defending a game and it's still pathetic.

      On a side note.
How is it, that everytime I read the attempts of an internet warrior to come along as eloquent, the term "strawman" is at least mentioned once as an accusation of falsely used dialogic logic?

Where did I use anything as a strawman in my "argument"? Wait, where did I anything else than defending my opinion? Are we arguing about rhetorics right now or are you just picking up things because you don't like what I said?
