I made this mod(still WIP) for myself but decided to share in hopes it will be useful/interesting for somebody else out there
What this mod does so far: 1. Adds a few items(books and boots) to a bartender that didn't sell things before 2. Advancing characters via books - usually Charname's party gets stronger via level ups and gear(a few found tomes and manuals were too scarse to make a difference) 3. Money sink - new books cost a lot, so now player has a reason and a place to spend their riches 4. Boots of speed - now there is enough of them for whole party 5. Smoother lore and carry weight advancement - every new point of wisdom , intelligence and strength makes a difference
Future plans: 1. More boots 2. A few more books 3. A bit of ingame explaining why those books cost so much and why are they sold 4. Maybe a few small simple quests 5. Similar mod for BGII
Tips: 1. Mod is sensitive to tweaks that change store prices - books were meant to cost lots of money, so beware the tweaks you use after installing this mod 2. Since you can get stronger via books - it makes sense to mod your game a bit to make it harder than usual, so it will not become boring 3. I like putting as little attribute points in character creation as possible - this way journey from a kid that's runs away to a godlike creature Charname becomes(especially with this mod) feels even more fun gameplay-wise 4. This mod is very simple(I don't know much about modding) so it can be easily tuned to ones preferences 5. All in all - have fun. That's a single-player game, do in it whatever you like ^_^
