Installing and Uninstalling - Ember's Lute Version 2

Installing

The recommended way to install Version 2 is to use the in-game BG3 Mod Manager (IGMM).
The .pak files for version 2 on this Nexus page** are intended for those who either prefer not to use the IGMM, or are updating from Version 1 mid-campaign.

** You can also download the same .pak files for version 2 from the mod.io pages for this mod. I won't link directly as unsure on the Nexus policy for this, but it is easy enough to find by name searching.

Uninstalling
Windows users: uninstallation steps are the same as for version 1 (see below).
Console users: mod uninstallation from a campaign is not possible without rolling back to an earlier save before the mod was added. For this reason, I recommend testing out any new mod and deciding whether to keep it, before investing several hours on campaign progression.

Please note the additional installation dependency of Version 1 on Norbyte's Script Extender.

Installing

Below is a summary, but for thorough installation instructions, this is an excellent resource: Mod Use | BG3 Modding Community Wiki

BG3 Mod Manager
The recommended way to install this is with LaughingLeader's BG3 Mod Manager.
Choose the Manual Download option from the Files tab on this Nexus page, then in BG3 Mod Manager, go to File -> Import Mod...
If you do not already have Norbyte's Script Extender, then go to Tools -> Download & Install the Script Extender in BG3 Mod Manager.
To activate this mod, simply drag it from the right-hand panel to the left-hand panel in BG3 Mod Manager.
Don't forget to click the "Export" button to update modsettings.lsx.

Vortex
If you are comfortable with Vortex, then there should be no problem in taking advantage of the Nexus integration as a convenient way to install this mod quickly. The only thing to keep in mind is that if you do not already have Norbyte's Script Extender installed, you will need to do it manually. Fortunately, this is very easy to do - just follow the instructions in the link.

Uninstalling
Because this mod adds new items, uninstalling requires pre-requisite in-game steps to erase custom mod items.

The best way to uninstall this mod (either Version 1 or Version 2) is with Volitio's Mod Uninstaller.
Dismiss any summons, unequip instruments and take a long rest before using the uninstaller.

You don't have to use the Mod Uninstaller if you prefer to clean items manually or use the tools this mod provides, but I would definitely recommend it, especially if you have many mods. If you wish to try uninstalling manually, then follow the instructions below.

Version 2: Manually removing mod items from your Save

  • Save your game as a backup point.
  • Use the Scroll of Summon Instrument Chest to summon the 10-turn temporary chest in your inventory
  • Place any instruments, items from the mod that you may have in character or companion inventories into this chest. It's important to get ALL mod items erased or this method will not work, so you should also add the scroll you just used to summon the chest.
  • Wait for the mod chest to disappear.
  • Take a Long Rest.
  • Save the game.
  • Quit back to Main Menu. If using the IGMM, disable the mod and then unsubscribe to delete it. Otherwise, exit BG3 and use your preferred third party mod manager to uninstall the mod. Restart BG3.
  • Load your latest Save game. You will still get a warning about missing mods, however you should be able to proceed anyway.
  • If you crash to main menu, then it means there are still custom items or statuses from the mod in your save campaign. You will need to install the mod again, load your save point from step 1, then try searching again in-game for any items missed.

Version 1: Manually removing mod items from your Save
There is a Flute of Cleaning and a book included in the mod with additional in-game instructions. The uninstallation approach is largely the same as for version 2.
