Made for Patch 6 - Hotfix 25, Working for Patch 7

...I'll be honest, I wasn't entirely sure if I was going to do this one 😅 For a lot of reasons, ranging from grad school to "I really, really, really need to keep working on that dialog tutorial I keep mentioning, my g-d,"

But this ended up being a kinda quick tweak, so I went ahead with it anyway between combing through JSTOR articles and kvetching about applications of math. And now, I share it with you!

By popular request, I give you this:

The Leg Thing.

This mod changes some camera angles/camera motion in the final cinematic of spawn Astarion's Act 3 romance scene, so you can now see the infamous Leg Thing—the little leg hook he does with your character at the end of that scene. This animation is normally hidden by the camera angles used in the vanilla game. This mod changes that!

Now you can see that leg hook in all its glory, no freecam mods required.

...And in fact, this fixes a little "skip" in the animation, which is a vanilla uh...Well, I'd hesitate to call it an issue, considering you can't see it with the vanilla camera angles, but you can see it when using freecam mods. You won't with this mod, though.

The mod also changes the final shot of the scene, to work a bit better with the first camera angle I changed (and also by request from a friend). It'll now show the characters from the side, and shifts the depth of field partway through the shot, to blur the characters. Like I mentioned for Wyll in the description for  Wyll's Act 3 Romance Tweaks, Astarion also deserves some privacy just, because of everything he's been through. The leg thing will still be visible, but I thought it'd be nice to give him that privacy at the end of the scene. The vanilla game tilts the camera away from them in a similar spot, and the DoF edit is designed to mirror that.

Works with all races and bodytypes. It turns out short characters have a unique version of the animation, by the way! Which I've actually not seen anyone post before. Honestly, that's a shame; it's very cute 🌟🎶

I finally got around to making a demo video for this, by the way! You can watch it here:

A note:

I configured the new camera position, camera motion, and depth of field in the final cinematic manually. The technique I used to do so shouldn't affect the camera position in any other part of the scene, and I didn't notice anything off while testing. It's actually the same technique I used for Wyll's Act 3 Romance Tweaks, which I've also not had issues with. Of course, let me know if you run into any issues!

This mod overrides the following file:

/Data/Public/GustavDev/Timeline/Generated/CAMP_Astarion_SD_ROM_BlackMassAftermath.lsf

The mod will conflict with any edits to the timeline for both Spawn and Ascended Astarion's Act 3 romance scenes.

They're both in the same file, and any mods editing this file will conflict with each other. This mod only edits his Dialog Timeline file, though, so edits to the DialogsBinary and Dialog Scene files won't conflict automatically, but might affect how the scene and this mod play out.

I will not make this mod compatible with any mods editing Ascended Astarion's romance scene, by the way. Please don't ask me to.

Installation:

I've provided both PAK file and loose file versions of this mod. Only install ONE version at a time!

Install the .PAK file via BG3 Mod Manager. It's an override, so it doesn't need to be in your load order, but you can add it if you'd like!

Install the loose files by dragging the Public folder in the .zip file into your BG3 Data folder, which can generally be found here:

\\SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\Baldurs Gate 3\Data\

Uninstallation:

Remove the .PAK file from your Mods folder completely in order to uninstall, or delete the loose file from the file path listed above, depending on which version you're using.

This mod should be safe to uninstall mid-playthrough! Any changes made will revert once removed.

As always, let me know if you run into any problems, and enjoy!

Known Issues, But Not Caused By My Mod:

This scene actually has a handful of bugs in it, from brief camera flickering after a couple lines, to player response options playing over one sequence of cinematics. I don't currently plan on fixing these—not until Patch 7 is released, just in case Larian themselves fixes them in the patch. To say I've been a bit short on time lately is an understatement, and I think it's best not to spend too much time fixing those bugs, especially because the dialog options one might be a bit thorny to fix.

The cinematics in that section are grouped dialog, making the dialog options display across the entire group, instead of only appearing at the end. Grouped dialog can be separated, but for cinematics it's a bit hard to tell where one cinematic ends and the other begins, because there aren't voice lines to divide them. It can be done, but I'd rather not spend the effort doing so without knowing whether Larian fixed it or not 😅.

That's about it!

As always, let me know if you have any issues, and enjoy! 🌟
