"...masters of speed, evasion, and finesse—never there when the enemy attacks, yet always ready with a disorienting blow or a quick strike at a vital spot."

This mod adds a 5e D&D interpretation of the Duelist (a Dragon Age specialisation for Rogues focused around in-your-face melee) as a Rogue Subclass. With my previous Dragon Age Subclass mods (Reaver & Champion), I tried my best to stay as faithful to the original specialisations as possible. However, the original Duelist specialisation (specifically from DA2) was very straight-forward (it had multiple abilities and passives that just stacked defense) and not very interesting outside of Vendetta. I took some more liberties than I usually would to try and give the Subclass a stronger sense of identity.

The features of the Subclass are as follows:

Level 3

Throw the Gauntlet (Ability):
This is a once per Short Rest Bonus Action that targets an enemy within 18m and gives them the "Picked Up the Gauntlet" status for 10 turns. This status does the following:

  • The affected creature has Disadvantage on attacks on creatures other than you
  • All attacks against the affected creature have Advantage
  • The affected creature has a damage penalty of -5.

Sure Strikes (Passive):
While wearing Light Armour and wielding a Finesse Weapon, you gain +3 to your attack rolls and the number you need to roll for a Critical is reduced by 1 (this effect can stack).

Fighting Style (Passive):
You can pick between Dueling and Two-Weapon Fighting as your Fighting Style (Subclass works with both, although Veteran, a Level 9 Passive, has an additional benefit for dual wielders).

Level 5:

Extra Attack (Passive):
Like other martials, you gain the ability to attack twice with a single Action.

Level 6:

Dueling (Passive):
While wearing Light Armour and wielding a Finesse Weapon, you gain a bonus of +2 to your AC and you add your Dexterity Modifier twice to your damage rolls.

Level 9:

Vendetta (Ability):

This is a once per Short Rest attack (works with Extra Attack) that causes you to vanish and instantly attack a target enemy within 18m. If the attack lands, the target picks up the gauntlet and duels you for 10 turns (see Level 3 for "Picked Up the Gauntlet" status).

Veteran (Passive):
While wearing Light Armour, enemies have Disadvantage on Opportunity Attacks against you. Also, when you attack with an off-hand weapon, you can make an additional off-hand attack for free.
