True Range applies D&D 5e rules to ranged weapon attacks, letting you shoot at full range in any direction without requiring high ground, as well as increase maximum range to that of tabletop.

Some ranged attacks, such as those made with a longbow or a shortbow, have two ranges. The smaller number is the normal range, and the larger number is the long range. Your attack roll has disadvantage when your target is beyond normal range, and you can't attack a target beyond the long range.

- Player's Handbook, p.195

Baldur's Gate 3 does have two different ranges for weapon attacks, but it requires standing at high ground and shooting downward to extend the range beyond normal , which is not how D&D 5e works. True Range corrects it, allowing you (and the enemies!) to shoot at maximum weapon range anywhere, as long as you accept to attack with disadvantage.

If you wanted another reason to take one of the strongest feats in the game - Sharpshooter, look no further, as it allows you to attack at long range without disadvantage, making the step from normal to long range much more impactful for character progression.

True Range let's you choose whether to use the original BG3 or 5e values for normal weapon ranges, as well as fully customize maximum range between the original 30m / 100ft and 5e 182m / 600ft. Keep in mind that very large maximum range values might cause unexpected AI behaviors and you won't be able to target creatures that far away unless another player character is nearby, since the game doesn't display them that far for performance reasons.

These settings can be changed even in the middle of combat using Mod Configuration Menu.
