Mod.Io Version

This is a personal project of mine and the first mod I've ever made for Baldur's gate 3. I would appreciate any feedback and ideas about balancing as well as on the grammatical structure of each feat.

Goal

I wanted a reason to pick any other feat but Great Weapon Master, Sharpshooter or Attribute Score Increase without feeling like I was hamstringing my character. This was done in an attempt to make other, less used, feats more attractive while not drastically changing the feats themselves.

What is a half-feat?

The term half-feat refer to a feat that gives a single attribute point in addition to other effects.

For example:

  • The feat Resilient in the vanilla game offers a +1 in any chosen ability score in addition to proficiency in saving throws of the same ability.
  • Actor gives a +1 to Charisma and doubled proficiency(e.g expertise) in Performance and Deception.
  • Lightly Armoured lets you choose between a +1 in either Strength or Dexterity as well as proficiency in Light Armour.

Generally the choice is curated in between two or three predetermined attributes like Lightly Armoured or a single attribute like Actor. Some feats like Resilient makes the choice entirely yours.

Implementation

Alters the majority of the feats in the game to function as half feats. Using the D&D 2024 Players Handbook as a template for the changes of the feats in an attempt to keep the core idea of feat intact while allowing for more customization.

Some Feats were not altered. Great Weapon Master and Sharpshooter were ignored since they don't need to become half-feats in their current state and Magic Initiate already offers plenty of customization given the choice of spells. I might change Great Weapon Master, Sharpshooter and Magic Initiate to Half-Feats later if I decide to try and implement their changes from the 2024 Player's Handbook.

List of Changes

All the feats listed have had an appropriate Attribute Score Increase added to them and their description changed to reflect that. The original effects of the feats remain as before.

  • Actor - Charisma
  • Charger - Strength or Dexterity
  • Crossbow Expert - Strength or Dexterity
  • Defensive Duelist - Dexterity
  • Dual Wielder - Strength or Dexterity
  • Dungeon Delver - Dexterity or Wisdom
  • Durable - Constitution
  • Elemental Adept - Intelligence, Wisdom or Charisma
  • Heavy Armoured - Strength or Constitution
  • Heavy Armour Master - Strength or Constitution
  • Mage Slayer - Strength or Dexterity
  • Martial Adept - Strength or Dexterity
  • Medium Armour Master - Your Strength or Dexterity
  • Mobile - Dexterity or Constitution
  • Performer -Charisma
  • Polearm Master - Strength or Dexterity
  • Ritual Caster - Intelligence, Wisdom or Charisma
  • Savage Attacker - Strength or Dexterity
  • Sentinel - Strength or Dexterity
  • Shield Master - Strength
  • Skilled - One ability score of your choice
  • Spell Sniper - Intelligence, Wisdom or Charisma
  • Tough - Constitution
  • War Caster - Intelligence, Wisdom or Charisma
Optional

  • Alert* - Dexterity

* I highly recommend a initiative altering mod like D20 Initiative or D10 Initiative as the vanilla game uses a 1d4 to roll initiative which makes alert extremely unbalanced. D20 Initiative has a good explanation posted on its page.
