After thoroughly enjoying my time with HeWhoWas in Act 2, I longed to be able to play as a Gloom Weaver myself, so I delved into the lore and  planned to recreate the Raven Queen patron Warlock subclass. As I learned more about the Raven Queen, her servants, the Shadar-Kai, and how the toolkit worked, however, I quickly felt my imagination exploding. The following is my attempt to amalgamate and unify concepts from the scattered lore into a playable class.
Not quite a god, not quite a mortal, the Raven Queen toils in her Palace of Memories in the Shadowfell. With her memories shattered, she sends out her Gloom Weavers to collect trinkets of sentimental value, in the hopes that bolstering her collection will hoard enough memory magic to regain that which she has lost. Should they happen upon injustice occurring along the way, they must swiftly correct it in Her name.
The powers she grants to her Gloom Weavers often appear as twisted versions of abilities seen on a variety of classes of their distantly related elven kin, perhaps because she distantly recalls techniques used by her people long ago, the details now warped by time and tragedy…

If you played this class and liked it, please consider filling out my Gloom Weaver Balancing Survey to help me better tune my class for balancing around the existing classes. Survey Monkey estimates a 3 minute completion time, and your feedback will be very helpful for putting the final polish on this project.

GLOOM WEAVER BASE CLASS FEATURES:
Proficiency: Light Armor, Daggers, Quarterstaffs, Hand Crossbows, Simple Weapons
Spellcasting Modifier: Charisma

Everything has been toolkit tested, but I have not yet been able to do a playthrough with the class to ensure there aren't any weird interactions or anything. Please feel free to shout out any bugs you find!
I'm also in the process of balancing, so please see above for the balancing survey link once you have played!

2 Spell Slots and 1 Gloom Weaver Spell Slot per spell level

Raven Queen’s Chosen (Subclass):
The very will of her majesty, the Raven Queen, personified. They are blessed with raven familiars that support them on the battlefield and evolve with leveling.

Shadow Dancer (Subclass):
Shadow Dancers are akin to a living darkness. Every dim corner and darkened alcove is a place from which they may strike out with a spell or with their spiked chain.

Soul Monger (Subclass):
Soul Mongers crave the vitality of others, draining the vigor of anyone unfortunate enough to be in their presence and using the stolen souls they hoard to bolster their own strength.

Proficiency: Medium Armor, Shields, Martial Weapons

GRIMOIRE OF THE RAVEN QUEEN:
Cantrips
Raven's Whip: Lashes out and pulls the creature closer to you.

Shadow Illusion: Create an illusory shadow that compels nearby creatures to investigate.

Level 1 Enchantment
Compulsion: Exude an aura of fear, possibly causing foe(s) to flee in terror.

Level 2 Abjuration
Umbral Armour: Envelop a target in shadows, increasing Armour Class by 2, and granting a +3 bonus to Stealth Checks.

Level 2 Enchantment
Overwrite Memories: Rewrite an enemy's memories, causing them to believe they are your ally. They take psychic damage immediately, and damage per turn.

Level 3 Conjuration
Thirsting Void: Creatures within this black sphere are Blinded and take damage at the end of their turn and the start of their turn.

Level 4 Necromancy
Beckoning Darkness: Curse a creature to be haunted by darkness. It takes damage if it enters or starts its turn in a Lightly or Heavily Obscured area.

Level 4 Transmutation
Raven Shape: Take the shape of a dire raven that can avoid attention and Blind enemies.

Level 4 Necromancy
Withering Touch: Touch a nearby creature and pour your fetid magic through its very soul.

Level 5 Evocation
Desiccating Pulse: Emit a psionic shockwave that damages nearby creatures and possibly knocks them Prone.

Level 5 Conjuration
Grasping Shadow: Summon the blight of the Shadowfell, capable of grappling, pulling, whipping, and burrowing. (with something even more fun if upcast to level 6)

Level 6 Necromancy
Finger of Death: Point at a foe to cause searing pain. If it does not kill them, they will wish they were dead.

Work is roughly 35% complete, and has been revamped to be an amalgamation of concepts and abilities from various versions of the lore just like the Gloom Weaver class.

The single most helpful thing on my modding journey so far. No joke, I could not have completed this project nearly as fast, or possibly at all without this tool.

Thank you so much for paving the way with your toolkit tutorial series. So many of the concepts that just weren’t clicking for me when I was reading them from the guides fell into place when I watched them being done. I also appreciate that you leave the bits in where you’re figuring stuff out and showing your process for where to look for things. It really helps to make the learning process less intimidating.

Great text based mod guides covering just about everything you need to get started with modding!

Nice Reddit post breaking down the Raven Queen lore between 4e and 5e that really got my brain juices flowin for the inspiration of the class

  • And finally, a shout out to all of the lovely folks in the Larian discord who are happy to help, and for those that came before me already having the same issues I was having and asking for help. (seriously just search variations on the question you’re trying to ask or key words from it and you’ll likely find someone in one of the modding channels has already answered the question)
