PATH OF THE CORPSE EATER HAS COME TO BALDUR'S GATE 3!

My second attempt at creating an entire new subclass from scratch for BG3/5e, inspired by the Corpse Eater Barbarian subclass from Obsidian's Pillars of Eternity. This is my first Barbarian subclass, and also my second Pillars of Eternity adaptation! You can probably tell I enjoy Pillars of Eternity. This one works a bit different from the regular Barbarian, in the sense that the Corpse Eater can't channel its rage on its own. Instead, it consumes corpses in a ritualistic fashion to enter a state of Rage. Once a Corpse Eater Barbarian is done fighting, there will be naught but piles of bones and offal left in their wake.

I've included abilities past level 12 for this one, so feel free to use level cap mods if you want access to them. I will not be making a separate version with reduced level thresholds. That being said, I've tried my best to make it fun to play while retaining a sense of balance, and as it's not based on 5e or any other homebrewer's work, I'm very much open to feedback and ideas since this is in no way a finished product. I hope you enjoy it!

CLASS FEATURES

Starting when you choose this path at 3rd level, you can no longer activate your Rage ability normally. Instead, you may use a Bonus Action to consume a corpse within 1.5m, healing you for an amount equal to twice your Barbarian level and causing you to enter a state of Rage. You may do this any number of times, but only during combat.

A corpse that has already been consumed cannot be targeted by Flesh Communion again. Does not work on Constructs, Elementals, Oozes, Plants, or Undead.
NOTES
This is heavily inspired by the Corpse Eater's trademark subclass feature in Pillars of Eternity with the same name. I figured that instead of having a limited amount of Rage charges, you can rage any number of times—but you have to rely on finding (or making...) corpses to consume before you can do so. If you want to, you can use it to heal yourself if you're already raging, and if you're afraid you'll run out of corpses or not find any around, how about stuffing a few dead goblins or rats in your backpack and pull 'em out when you need 'em?

Beginning at 6th level, the stench of undeath no longer deters you, as you realize the residual power that lies within the rotten flesh. You may now consume Undead corpses as part of your Flesh Communion feature. However, doing so grants you half the normal hit points, and you become Poisoned for 1 round before your body purges the disease carried by the dead.

As part of your newfound appetite, you gain Resistance to Necrotic damage.
NOTES
By now you're probably encountered your fair share of undead, and since this game is absolutely ripe with them, you can now use them as snacks. Doing so isn't as useful as consuming something more recently deceased, but it'll allow you to Rage even if you're surrounded by undead. Having Resistance against Necrotic damage will probably also come in handy more than once.

Beginning at 10th level, as a Bonus Action, you may consume a corpse within 1.5m to channel the spirits of the fallen, granting you temporary hit points equal to your Barbarian level. Additionally, the spirits of the fallen surround you as you feast on the corpse, granting you one of the following effects:

• Warrior's Spirit: You gain a +2 bonus to Attack Rolls and damage rolls for 1 minute.

• Hunter's Spirit: You gain Advantage on Stealth and Perception checks until your next Long Rest.

• Sage's Spirit: You gain Advantage on Intelligence (Arcana, History, Nature, and Religion) checks until your next Long Rest.

You can use this feature twice before requiring a Long Rest.

NOTES
Adds another way of consuming corpses by giving you a number of different buffs, two of which will remain for a little while, while the remaining will briefly boost your martial prowess. I figured you could use it twice so you don't have to spend too much time thinking about which one is the most effective at any given time.

Starting at 14th level, you have feasted on the dead for so long that their essence has become a part of you, your body a vessel of primal, necrotic power.

When you use your Flesh Communion feature, the lingering power of surrounding spirits surge through allies within 9m of you, granting them temporary hit points equal to their level, and nearby enemies must succeed on a Wisdom saving throw or become Frightened of you for 2 rounds, as your nightmarish consumption of the dead strikes terror into the hearts of those who witness it.

In addition, while under the effects of Flesh Communion, your wounds knit together with unnatural speed, healing you for an amount equal to your Constitution modifier at the start of each of your turns. Furthermore, you deal an additional 2d6 Necrotic damage with each of your weapon attacks.
NOTES
*Requires a mod that allows levelling past level 12.*
Fairly standard capstone ability that increases your menacing factor when raging. Nothing too complicated, but makes you a lot more powerful after feasting on the flesh of your foes.

POTENTIAL ISSUES/DISCLAIMERS

•   Consuming a corpse prevents you from casting Speak with Dead on it, for obvious reasons.
