The goal of the “Listonomicon” is to be an out-of-the-box experience that enhances Baldurs Gate 3’s UI, quality of life, and replay value. Listo seeks to introduce beloved aspects of the tabletop's past and present, while respecting what changes Larian made to translate D&D to a fun cRPG. Gameplay and mechanics are widened and deepened without losing sight of what makes BG3 an already great game. The early Act One on-ramp is smoothed out, thanks to quickly reaching level 3; but the meaningful experience of challenge of late Act 1 and Act 2 should last longer as enemies are rebalanced around the level 20 cap and new classes, spells, features, magic items, and options available to the player. No extremely early game struggle or challenge-free late game.

THANK YOU to everyone who played from pre-v1.0's proof of concept, through Listo v4.0 as it lived as a Boneyard Creations mod list. You helped us learn so much, so quickly, and get this mod list where it is today. Listonomicon is now an independent project managed by me, Ajax, alone (however I get endless help from talented BG3 modders and smart players).

Welcome to the Listonomicon Nexus Page

This page will serve as a repository for Wabbajack file releases and supporting files (like Listo's custom patches).

So, what's in Listonomicon? You can get a (slightly outdated) list of all included mods here.

  • Currently there are 450+ gameplay-changing mods and frameworks. This includes new classes, races, spells, Combat Extender, new equipment, rebalances, tweaks, and even some mods custom made for Listo!
  • There are 100+ cosmetic mods and frameworks. This includes new faces, hairs, scars, makeup, eyes, dyes, giving horn and tail options to more races, piercings, skin tones, and more. If you only want gameplay changing mods, a "Listo Lite" is available.
  • There are 16+ "Optional" mods tested and included in Listo to let you customize your experience for more combat, more cosmetic options, alternate storylines, or what else suits you.
  • Stability. Knock on wood, but Listo is play tested for bugs and stability issues and updated frequently if issues are found.
  • Sanity. The first thing the Listo team did was sit down and hash out a "Vision," one that I continue to follow. That mission statement is to: Create a list which celebrates D&D's past and present, while staying faithful to Larian's adaptation of 5e to an enjoyable cRPG. To that end, mods are only included if they feel coherent to the list and coherent to the Forgotten Realms. You won't see us adding mechs, anime, or silly mods (as fun as they are).

What Listonomicon Absolutely Is Not

Listonomicon aims to achieve a seamless feel from a vanilla first playthrough, to an enhanced second playthrough premium experience. This means that Listonomicon is not:

    • Gratuitous adult content frameworks or mods.
    • A “Kitchen Sink” compilation (despite the community name, heh). Every mod inclusion is carefully considered for how it is expected to contribute to or disrupt the overall gameplay experience.
    • Classes, subclasses, races, feats, spells, magic items, or other options that are out of place. You should only see content that feels like something you might find in BG3 normally - or, at most, something that is within the realm of a creative Dungeon Master who loves buying Kobold Press, Pathfinder, OSR, and other high-quality, setting-agnostic books.
    • Cheats, tutorial chests full of goodies, or an easier game. If anything, Listonomicon should feel more difficult and harder to predict than the vanilla game, if you play according to the guide (customized difficulty on Listonomicon settings, 6 party limit or smaller).
    • The intention to please everyone. This list is assembled according to our taste and vision. Fortunately, adding or removing mods from MO2 is pretty easy - feel free to use Listonomicon as a baseline, and then void any support on our Discord if you decide to customize!
    • A list to play in “Honour Mode.” The features of Honour Mode (such as enhanced bosses, smarter enemies, and tweaked game mechanics) are enabled in this list, without asking players to restrict themselves to a single save in a heavily modded environment.
    • An intentionally punishing, grueling, unfair, unfun experience. Listonomicon should feel fresh, exciting, and challenging with many unexpected, changed, or completely new encounters - but it should not feel like an angry DM is dumping an impossible stat block on you at every turn and denying the fun of sword and sorcery fantasy.

List Philosophy

Classes and Subclasses

Classes and Subclasses should represent something that exists in official D&D material, makes sense in the Forgotten Realms (sorry my fellow Dragon Mech and Dragon Star fans), and compliments Larian’s design. It must work within the Compatibility Framework, and it must have level scaling to 20. Anything that requires unusual deviation or disruption to the regular flow of gameplay, such as a class that introduces an obnoxious number of toggle abilities or changes to the action economy or impacts the basic features of all classes, will most likely not be considered for inclusion. Classes and subclasses should follow their book/tabletop counterparts as closely as practical, with minimal changes to translate to the game.

Magic Weapons, Armor, and Items

New gear should reasonably exist in the Forgotten Realms. The design philosophy and distribution (as static loot, or new random loot table entries or shopkeeper inventory) should match Larian’s progression expectations and design sensibility. Vanilla gear that is changed should avoid “over tuning” and changes should focus on making items more interesting, under-used items more compelling, or provide Quality of Life changes to awkward mechanics or descriptions.

Feats, Class Features, and Progression

New feats should add interesting options. Revised feats (nerfed or buffed or just tweaked) should prevent any options from feeling mandatory, polarizing, or weak. The progression of feats every 3 levels, instead of 4, allows more feats to be chosen over the course of the game; allows builds to come together sooner (such as polearm/sentinel tanks); and it allows multi-class dips to grab their 3rd level subclass features without having to choose a 4th level or miss a feat. Level progression should be faster than the base game, allowing players who do most content to reach level 15+ and completionists to reach level 18+. Completionist players will still be able to out-level enemies, but not to the same degree as the base game. Balance tuning is an ongoing fight; please provide feedback on what level you enter Act 2 and Act 3, and if you encounter enemies with excess AC or HP.

Engaging Combat and Difficulty Curve

Enemies should roughly scale with the player, to a limit determined by the game act. Bosses will always be slightly above the player’s level. Enemy casters should have access to 5e spells and Homebrew spells. Enemies are more viscous, with increased stats and abilities throughout Act 2 and Act 3 to remain worthy adversaries despite the level 20 cap. The list enables Honour Mode mechanics, including legendary actions added to boss fights. There are even more optional mods for anyone seeking a challenge to enable.
