Welcome, fellow hand crossbow enthusiasts! I'm excited to present to you Gabett's Hand Crossbows V2, an overhaul and expansion of the originally published mod. Get ready to discover brand new varieties of hand crossbows across all three acts, ranging from Uncommon to Legendary! Some can be found at different vendors, but for others, you might need to put in a little more legwork.

What's new:

  • 12 brand new hand crossbows: Tribute, Tinkertop Bolt Blaster 1000, Ne'er Misser Deluxe and Ultradeluxe, Arcane Blaster, Soulthief, Twinshot Hand Crossbow, Stingtail, Phasestrike, Charming, Wise, and Intelligent Hand Crossbows
  • Different rarities: both new and existing crossbows have been categorized into different rarities
  • All across the realm: crossbows now turn up at different places across all three acts, with rarer crossbows only appearing later in the story

What got updated:

  • The Right Tool for the Job: expanded elemental options and elemental effects
  • Bolt of Some Trades: adjusted damage die
  • Rarity retroactively applied, various price adjustments

Custom weapon skills are considered ranged weapon attacks and work with sneak attacks.

Where to get them

If you don't see the new items in a trader's inventory,  long rest and check again!

Most crossbows will be sold by various traders. Rarer weapons will only appear in later acts.

Alternatively, you can install the optional Cheat file, which will add everything into the tutorial chest in the room past Shadowheart on the Nautiloid.
If you are past the prologue, you can use the Tutorial Chest Summoning mod to get them.

Updating from a previous version

You can safely install V2 and uninstall V1. You will keep your already acquired weapons, and they will automatically take on the updated stats.
Traders' inventories will update after a long rest to reflect the changes as well.

Installation

Install using the BG3 Mod Manager.
I personally don't use Vortex, but I don't see why it wouldn't work.

For the Cheat version, you NEED the main file as well!

Optional: Sheathe Hand Crossbows on Your Hip
Drop into your Mods folder. Can be installed separately from the main mod.

Known issues

Crossbow Expert's "no disadvantage in melee range" does not work with my crossbows for some unknown reason.

The Right Tool for the Job: casting the Elemental Bolt spell switches the caster back to their melee weapon set. I have no idea from where the game pulls this behavior, and since it doesn't actually affect the spell (the elemental damage is still applied to your crossbow), I won't spend more time trying to fix it. If someone knows what causes this, please drop a comment!

Requests

I'm pretty happy with what I accomplished here. I'm open to suggestions on balance (prices, rarity, locations, etc.) and might add more crossbows if an idea really piques my interest, but I won't be actively expanding the mod for now.
