Removed some unnecessary character visuals which were causing problems with Unique Tav
Custom Companions can no longer be recruited or dismissed after passing the point-of-no-return (Morphic Pool)
Previous behavior for the above can be restored with new configuration file option (see 2nd sticky post)
Version 2.2.0.4
Fixed an issue with some duplicated NPCs not being eligible for resurrection. Known to affect Halsin.
Version 2.2.0.3
The following characters are now properly eligible to show equipped gear when duplicated: Rolan, Nettie, Gortash.
The following characters are now properly ineligible to show equipped gear when duplicated: Orin, Nightsong.
Fixed some corner case issues with the duplication code.
Version 2.2.0.2
Minor bug fix: Companions will now stay still during the night if attending a Camp Caster from my other mod (although who camp casts at night?)
Version 2.2.0.1
Fixed a bug causing Companions with no camp position set to all cluster together in one spot while playing animations.
Companions with no camp position set will now stay close to Withers and play no animations as in previous versions.
Version 2.2.0.0
Added the ability to set a position in camp to which a Custom Companion will return when idle.
Custom Companions idling in camp will now play a selection of animations instead of just standing and staring. (humanoids only)
Version 2.1.2.1
Fixed a bug which could prevent Companions from consuming tadpoles if the player character had not yet consumed any.
Version 2.1.2.0
Internal changes to interface with Camp Caster Helper.
Various tidying and removal of old, redundant code.
Version 2.1.1.2
Fixed a typo preventing duplicated Drow NPCs from being eligible for the show gear visuals spell. Araj Oblodra and Nere can now play dress-up. :)
Version 2.1.1.1
Fixed a bug causing Companions to lose their hit point buffs when playing on Explorer difficulty.
Version 2.1.1.0
Duplicated NPC Companions now show their own visuals, not the placeholder character, on the level-up and respec screens.
Fixed a bug which caused duplicated NPC Companions to not play voice barks. Their boots have now seen everything. ;)
Added a new spell which can restore the previous silent behavior if desired, e.g. for duplicated animals which should not speak.
Fixed a bug where duplicating summons (Shovel, etc) could break a save. Duplicating summons may still be unwise however. Do so with caution.
Version 2.1.0.1
Fixed a bug which caused duplicated NPC Companions to receive too many or too few hit points when playing on difficulties other than Balanced.
Version 2.1.0.0
Added the ability to show equipped gear on a limited number of duplicated NPCs. See the new spell in your Companion Commands.
Custom Companions now default to Sorcerer instead of Barbarian, to help differentiate them from Tav on the character creation screen.
Placeholders for duplicated NPCs on the character creation and level-up screens are now clothed magical projections, not weird naked grey mannequins.
Disallowed the duplication of "crowd NPCs" in the city; it wasn't working and I doubt there is sufficient demand to justify trying to make it work.
Internal: Merged many .lsx files for a cleaner structure.
Version 2.0.4.0
The camera will now work properly when creating a Custom Companion or modifying their appearance.
The background of the level-up screen will now load correctly when levelling up a Custom Companion.
Credit to kmcsjr for pointing me towards the fix for the above two issues.
Version 2.0.3.0
Changed the way the XP catch-up mechanism works to be more accurate and avoid Companions overshooting the player in level.
Added an additional check to avoid a spurious but harmless error when loading into an area which has no associated camp.
Version 2.0.2.4
The "send to camp" option will now fail gracefully in areas where there is no camp, such as on the nautiloid.
Removed the integrated mod fixer.
Version 2.0.2.3
Fixed a bug which could cause players starting a new game to not receive the wand and mirror
Version 2.0.2.2
Removed the uninstall option. I think it's been broken for a while now. This mod is not safe to uninstall mid-playthrough.
Version 2.0.2.1
Fixed a bug which could cause dismissed Companions to sometimes reappear at your camp.
Version 2.0.2.0
Fixed a bug which caused Companions who had been resurrected to lose the ability to engage in dialogue. Unfortunately the fix is NOT retrospective. Any Companions who have already become mute due to the bug will need to be recreated. :(
Added a configuration file which can be used to tweak a few advanced options. See the sticky post for details.
Version 2.0.1.0
This is now the main version. No longer supporting 1.x version.
Changed mod category from "Utility" to "Companions".
Fixed a typo in companion dismiss prompt.
Version 2.0.0.0
THIS IS AN EXPERIMENTAL VERSION
Switched from using hireling interface to character creation interface for making Companions.
Removed lots of legacy code relating to Plus UI and the original separate racial spells.
Version 1.3.6.0
Your Companions can now mingle at the epilogue gathering! They will also be properly detached from your party.
Fixed a bug where Companions who were waiting in camp could not be dismissed permanently.
Try to improve visibility of the mod by editing the title to include the word "hirelings".
Version 1.3.5.1
Work around message box events no longer working after patch 6.
Version 1.3.5.0
The inventory of Custom Companions dismissed to camp is now available via the "Camp Companions" button.
Fixed a bug which would prevent the duplication spell/item being used again if you had previously cancelled the hireling screen.
Version 1.3.4.0
Companions will now automatically level up when the player they are following levels up. This is not ideal and may occasionally mean they gain a little bit of XP which they are not strictly entitled to. It is though the only way I can find to work around a more serious issue where Companions were missing out on any non-combat XP awarded to the party.
Version 1.3.3.1
Fix a recently introduced bug which prevented dead NPCs from being duplicated.
Version 1.3.3.0
Ensure that Companions who have used the Astral-Touched Tadpole receive the full Half-Illithid benefits.
Version 1.3.2.0
Permanent status effects will now be copied from duplicated NPCs to the created Companion. Note that this change is not retrospective; you will need to re-copy the NPC if it's important to you. Also note that status effects granting invulnerability are deliberately excluded.
Version 1.3.1.0
Tadpoled Companions can now become Half-Illithid by using the Astral-Touched Tadpole from their inventory.
More reliably keep the tadpole powers tree available for Companions who unlocked it early.
The wand and mirror are now zero weight.
Version 1.3.0.1
Fixed a bug which could cause the mod to get into a broken state after dismissing a Companion.
Version 1.3.0.0
Your Companions can talk now ... sort of; added some minimal dialogue for sending to camp and dismissing. YMMV with duplicated non-humanoid NPCs.
Added two new items which can be used to cast the Companion creation and duplication spells. These may help if said spells become non-responsive or if you just prefer to save hotbar space. This feature requires Plus UI.
Companions in camp but not in the active party will now be refreshed when the party takes a full long rest.
Dismissed Companions will now provide their inventory to you inside a backpack instead of dumping many loose items.
Fixed an issue which could cause a fight to break out in your camp when dismissing Companions.
Internal: Companions are now DB_PartOfTheTeam ;)
Internal: Consolidated a lot of duplicated code.
Internal: Updated compatibility to Script Extender v13
Version 1.2.3.0
Improved multiplayer support: non-hosts can now recruit Companions and invite dismissed-to-camp Companions to follow them
Fixed an issue where Companions would get their tadpole status reset upon entering a new region
Fixed a typo which may have impacted players without Plus UI doing a respec on Companions via Withers
Version 1.2.2.0
Companions will now stand near Withers if he is at camp, similar to vanilla hirelings, instead of cluttering the area close to the campfire.
Adjusted the way the creation spell is set up, in an effort to ensure that it stays consistent at all times during a game session.
Version 1.2.1.1
Drow Companions will receive their correct racial underwear when created WITHOUT Plus UI
Version 1.2.1.0
Allow Companions to unlock Illithid Powers. Note that this can allow Companions to unlock them before the player does. It's up to you to roleplay responsibly around this if it's a problem for you. ;)
Add optional plug-in which enables duplicating NPCs in combat
Version 1.2.0.0
When Plus UI is installed a single unified creation spell replaces the various separate racial ones, and no automatic respec is performed.
Races added by other mods are now supported when Plus UI is used.
Fix the "Companion" class crashing the game beyond level 5, although it is still not intended to be a playable class.
Make sure companions receive their proper background passives.
If an existing duplicate is targeted with the duplication spell, produce an identical duplicate instead of a mannequin.
Internal: much code tidying
Version 1.1.3.0
Include support for Plus UI; this will help users with edited races which previously caused the hireling screen to lock up
Version 1.1.2.0
Fix some duplicated characters reverting to mannequins when leaving their original region
Version 1.1.1.1
Fixed a typo in the code which was leading to a crash during NPC duplication.
Version 1.1.1.0
Companions will no longer disappear when taking the Duergar boat in the Underdark
Fixed a regression resulting in spells yet again not being added to brand new player characters
Added an uninstall option
Version 1.1.0.0
Moving between regions will no longer cause your companions waiting at camp to get left behind
Added a new spell to the companion commands list to move all companions to your camp; this can be used to find any who become lost.
Companions can now be targeted with Scrolls of Revivify
Internal: reorganised much of the code to hopefully add support for mod races in the future
Version 1.0.4.0
Dismissing a companion in a populated area should no longer get you reported for theft
Companions created with classes from other mods should now receive their correct starting equipment
Dismissing a custom companion or sending them to camp should not block you from adding base game companions to your party if you have space
Version 1.0.3.0
Companions are no longer Barbarians by default; this improves compatibility with other mods which edit the Barbarian class
Fudged compatibility with Dragonborn Unleashed (Dragonborn companions will be stuck with Persuasion as their bonus proficiency)
Female Dragonborn companions will no longer be topless on the hireling screen
Internal: no longer use tags to identify custom companions at creation time (seems to be unreliable)
Version 1.0.2.0
Fix the mod leaving things in a bad state if the player backs out of the respec screen after creating a new companion
Add the option to select cantrip for High Elves / High Half-Elves
Fixed (although not in an ideal way) the movement speed of duplicated NPCs being zero after using Dash
Version 1.0.1.0
Fixed spells not being added to completely new player characters
Version 1.0.0.0
Initial release
By popular demand there is now a slimmed down version of this mod available via the in-game mod manager. This version does not require the Script Extender but its functionality is reduced as a result. Please see the mod.io page for more details.
Description
Bored of the same old hirelings offered by Withers? With this mod you can create fully customized companions or duplicate NPCs to add to your party.
Create fully custom party members without the need to run multiple copies of the game.
Companions can be of any race, including races added by mods.
Duplicate NPCs and add them to your party as full members.
You can order Companions to wait at camp, recruit them again, and dismiss them permanently.
Companions will appear in party cutscenes and behave mostly like real party members. They work like hirelings, not multiplayer characters, and should not block camp events or prevent you from sleeping.
You can pick a spot in camp to which they will return when idle.
Companions can be infected with tadpoles to unlock Illithid Powers and can become Half-Illithid.
What It Doesn't Do
NPCs duplicated with this mod are not removed or hidden. You will have to make your own arrangements to remove the original if necessary. ;)
Duplicated NPCs can equip gear but their appearance may not change. A limited number can be made to show equipped gear by way of a command spell.
Voices are not copied over to duplicated NPCs; you must instead select one of the regular Tav voices.
No story participation, but that's no worse than Withers' hirelings.
If you are determined to install manually, place the .pak file in "%LOCALAPPDATA%\Larian Studios\Baldur's Gate 3\Mods" and edit "%LOCALAPPDATA%\Larian Studios\Baldur's Gate 3\PlayerProfiles\Public\modsettings.lsx accordingly. See here for more details, but I have never tested this and would urge you to use the mod manager instead.
