Introduction

Mage Armor suffers from the lack of progression, being as good at lvl 12 as at 1. Granted, wizards are not supposed the most protected class, but it pushes to stay less faithful to the class fantasy, finding a way to add a shield to your wizard or even abandon the unarmored combat altogether. It also lack any interesting synergies with other unarmored defence options.

Description


This mod change the mechanics of Mage Armor spell. Now instead of setting your base AC to 13 it allows you to have unarmored AC according to 10 + DEX + INT formula, similar to the way unarmored defence works for Monk and Barbarian. This means that for a level one Wizard the effect will still be the same, but it becomes stronger later, scaling with intelligence. However, for the sake of balance and motivation to stay faithful to the class fantasy, it doesn't work with shields anymore.

Additionally, similarly to Unarmored Defence Synergy, when Mage Armor is applied to a Monk, they automatically get the best of three options:

10 + WIS + DEX
10 + INT + DEX
10 + INT + WIS

Likewise for Barbarians it's the best of:

10 + CON + DEX
10 + INT + DEX
10 + INT + CON
