About this mod
This mod allows you to play as a version of Thor from Norse mythology. This is inspired by the primary sources of the mythology, not modern interpretations. Read the description for full information.

There are more standalone versions of Mjolnir that I created if you're interested in those. The two files here are meant to be played together.
A Quick Lesson in Norse Mythology
Norse myths are very misunderstood due to popular culture and the litany of bad info that exists from folks who either just refuse to read the sources, or they want to edit it to be things that it is not. It's a bit of a passion project of mine to encourage people to read the primary sources and form their own thoughts and opinions on the material. I love pretty much all of the modern adaptations of Norse myth and I'll enjoy any new ones that come, but I do think it is really important that we retain our sources and don't get to the point where the sources, in their original form, get lost or overridden to the modern stuff.
Let's start with what the primary sources are - The Poetic Edda and the Prose Edda. I've linked what is generally considered the best English translations of these two sources and many might be surprised to know that this is all we have as primary sources for Norse myth. Some assume there are just thousands and thousands of pages, but nope. Also, the two I've linked are to their free online versions! These are quite accessible and can be read in chunks as they are not end-to-end narratives and feature some poems or stories that are even just a few pages long. Indexes and using CTRL+F allow you to sift through to the things you want to read first or to explore the text a bit easier. For example, one of my favorite stories about Thor's duel with Hrungnir in the Prose Edda is told through just a few pages - pg77-81 in the linked Prose Edda above! It's that easy!
It's sad that this is all we have, and many folks will criticize these works, especially the Prose Edda, but the bottom line is, this is all we have right now. It's fair to be critical of them, but what I am always sad to see is people dismissing them just because the author of the Prose Edda was a Christian and it was written in the 1200s. We can't do this - and I encourage people to put their politics and religion aside to understand how these myths are entertaining, enlightening, interesting, and like any piece of history, they can teach us something (whether that be humans, ourselves, or others) or even allow us to make meaning of them in our own personal ways. If we dismiss our sources then we don't have anything and that's even more sad - let's analyze, be critical, and make meaning from them while accepting them for what they are.
Let's Talk About Thor in Norse Mythology. I'll start by saying that I love Marvel's Thor, GoW's Thor, and really any other interpretation of Thor that exists. I eat it up, but I also understand that those are just interpretations. The reality is, we don't know all that much about Thor in totality, so any interpretation has to take creative liberties, much like this mod is doing! People are surprised to learn, among other things, that our primary sources don't tell us what Thor looks like, that he is the "God of Thunder" and they don't tell us that he has lightning and thunder powers. They do not tell us that he can fly. They also do not imply that he is some buffoon. Those are just a small handful of things I see repeated frequently as "source accurate" when they are not. People may have interpreted those things at various points in history, but our sources DO NOT tell us about those things in any clear manner. I think the general essence of Thor is that he is a protector (of both gods and man), a slayer of evil, and that he is the mightiest figure in the myths. He is the pinnacle of masculinity that would have been viewed extremely favorably by our ancestors who believed in him as a god.
Let's talk about Mjolnir in Norse Mythology. There are loads of misconceptions about Mjolnir that stem mostly from God of War and Marvel in our current times. The Eddas don't tell us all that much about Mjolnir and maybe there are stories out there that are lost to time that did state that Mjolnir could make Thor fly or shoot lightning bolts, who knows. But the sad reality is that if those stories did exist, we don't have them, and as such - we can only go off of the stories we do have. The stories we do have pretty much only state these properties for Mjolnir - it is indestructible, won't fly too far from Thor's hand when thrown so as to not come back, and that the handle is shorter than intended thanks to Loki's meddling. There is a story where he revives one of his goats with the hammer, so maybe there's something unique there, but it's not explained any further. The dwarves also state that the hammer is small enough to hide under Thor's shirt, which some have taken to mean that the hammer can change sizes, and maybe it can. I'm not sure I believe it can change its size, but instead that it's just kind of a small hammer, but that size clearly doesn't impede it's might.
This is the end of the mythology lesson and I hope this tiny amount of information intrigues you enough to maybe pop open those links and even just read a few pages of our primary sources of Norse Myth.
Let's talk about this mod now.
Please read all the features below carefully as many very important things do not show in the tooltip in-game.
Play as Thor (found in tutorial chest)
This mod is a ring that grants bonuses to help you role-play as Thor in this awesome game. Not all bonuses are visible on the ring because I'm not good enough at modding to do that. Everything listed here is what this ring will do for your equipped character.
Maybe the main thing here before the rest of the list of perks is that you cannot die. If you go to zero HP you will go back to 1 and not die. Remember, this is a mod for roleplay, not balance.
1) Cannot be moved against your will and can knock enemies prone when you run into them (you are mighty!)
2) Immune to Force damage
3) Doubles jump distance
4) Ignores Fall Damage
5) Grants the "Revivify" spell. Inspired by the story where Thor revives his goats after eating them. Also needed because you might accidently kill your allies with your throw ability that is on the hammer (see below)
6) Advantage on all abilities and attack rolls
7) +100 to Death Saving Throws and all other Saving Throws
8) +1 Action Point and Bonus Action point each turn
9) +100 to Initiative
10) +70ft to movement speed
11) Immunity to the following: Stun, Incapacitated, Paralyzed, Prone, Unconscious, Polymorph, Charmed, Disease, Restrained, Dazed, tough terrain, and cannot have movement reduced in any way
12) All attacks will always crit
13) Grants "Rebuke of the Mighty" which is a counter-attack that will do 30 Force damage
Mjolnir (found in tutorial chest)
This is a weapon mod. It's very similar to my other mod with several different styles of Mjolnir, but it's meant to fit this Thor mod as there would be some overlap in abilities/buffs with the other ones. Feel free to check them out if you'd like, but you cannot have both this Mjolnir and any of those at the same time in game.
1) 1d20 damage
2) Grants Tenacity
3) Grants Heavy Hitter
4) Damage from this weapon ignores resistance to bludgeoning damage
5) It is bound to you so you cannot be disarmed, and it will return to you when thrown. It doesn't say in the tooltip anywhere, but these properties are there.
6) 1 weapon actions
- Throw: 5,000 Force damage with a huge range and will do splash damage in a 10ft radius, which means it can kill your teammates or a lot of enemies in one shot. To remedy this, the "Thor" mod above gives you the ability to cast revivify at will if you need it. No cooldown or cost. Meant to be used for role play purposes. Use it how you see fit.
