After my latest colorful late-80s ReShade inspired by the late great Norm Breyfogle, I decided to go with something more subtle and dark, and what better example of that than the noir masterpiece that to this day is still the best getaway to Batman comics: YEAR ONE?
What I attempted to do here was to go for the elegant and minimalistic look David Mazzuchelli gave to what's likely my favorite Batman story.
Something simple and yet striking. Unapologetically 2D, but with a great deal of tangibility and realism in a world where flat colors and bold shadows invest the life of its inhabitants, without lacking any dimension or thickness.
In other words: some of the most beautiful comic art I've ever seen.
Sadly, there's a problem with the dark blue tint on the sky, meaning that everything gets quite darker in Detective Mode (although, one could pretend it's an early version of the Mode, considering the theme of the ReShade), and it's especially frustrating when using the batmobile since everything tends to go blue from time to time. If anyone knows how to fix that, pieces of advice are welcome!
Just a couple of things before I let you go:
1. This particular look is obviously inspired by the latest recoloring of the book-- even tho I'm thinking about making an alternate ReShade in the style of the original coloring.
2. This ReShade works alongside other wonderful mods developed and published by other great creatives. Make sure you download them too if you're using this, to achieve what you see in the video.
The mods in question are:
