Smooth Bendy

This mod introduces many changes to the game to result in more comfortable gameplay, especially at high refresh rates.

Features:

  • (NEW) GOG / itch.io version support (not fully tested, please report bugs)
  • Smooth player movement, mouse look, and animations
  • Field of view and weapon scaling adjustment options
  • Surround sound support
  • Option for head sway removal
  • Option to disable flickering lights
  • Options to customize the crosshair
  • Option to make Bendy more or less aggressive
  • Pre-game video removal
  • UltraWide resolutions selectable in-game (must have an UltraWide monitor)
  • Option to enable the Halloween event at any time of the year (reload required)

Detailed Changes:

  • Many game mechanics have had their reliance on the 50 hz internal physics rate removed. This makes the game present a smoother image. Changes include moving script updates from FixedUpdate to NormalUpdate or LateUpdate, interpolating rigidbodies, and setting animation update types to normal.
  • Mouse sensitivity range has been scaled back to compensate for the physics changes.
  • The JDS intro video is skipped.
  • A field of view option has been added to the options menu.
  • A weapon scale option has been added to the options menu. This option scales your weapon between 0.5x and 1x and includes a few weapon-specific tweaks to position.
  • An option has been added to the menu to select a speaker configuration. Only stereo is officially supported but I had a good experience using 5.1.
  • Your native monitor resolution is added to the list of selectable resolutions, resulting in native ultrawide support.
  • The flashlight beam is now slightly wider on ultrawide displays.
  • An option to stop the camera from swaying has been added to the options menu.
  • An option to disable flickering lights has been added to the options menu.
  • An option to scale Bendy's aggressiveness has been added to the options menu. Bendy spawns when the current time reaches a randomized "max" time. This option scales the current time by 0.5 to 2.0 and defaults to 1.0 for the originally intended experience.
  • An option has been added to the menu to scale the crosshair between 0.1x and 1x its original size.
  • An option has been added to the menu to set the crosshair opacity between 0.1x and 1x.
  • Character movement and jump calculations have multipliers applied to prevent unexpected jump height and movement speed due to the removal of reliance on the physics rate.
  • The number of lights permitted on screen at once has been increased.
  • A bug that made clicking the advanced options menu immediately after closing the advanced option menu open the regular settings menu instead of advanced has been fixed.
  • The options menu now fits to your screen when using an aspect ratio higher than 16:9 and options menu items have had their positions and scaling adjusted to account for new options.
  • An option to force the Halloween event to become active outside of the Halloween season has been added to the options menu. This feature applies upon reloading a save.
  • The game will detect if you are using Steam or another platform and initialize the achievement manager depending on what it finds. This prevents crashing on other platforms. The only requirement is that your Steam copy of the game contain a file with "steam" in the name in the same folder as the game EXE. This is included by default in the Steam install and not included in GOG or itch.io, so this should work without tinkering.

Install:

  • Extract the archive and copy the DLL file within. Paste the file into your Bendy and the Ink Machine\Bendy and the Ink Machine_Data\Managed folder and overwrite the existing file.
  • On Steam, this folder is usually C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Bendy and the Ink Machine\Bendy and the Ink Machine_Data\Managed.
  • Optionally, copy the boot.config file within and paste it into the Bendy and the Ink Machine_Data folder.
  • If your game boots to a blank screen or the options menu won't open, try opening Registry Editor and deleting the contents of Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Joey Drew Studios\Bendy and the Ink Machine.

Warnings:

  • Repairing or moving your install will overwrite this change.
  • This mod changes core functions of the game and may have unintended side-effects I did not account for. Let me know if you notice anything and I may be able to update it to account for it, though I've been playing without noticing any real problems.
  • Anything other than stereo audio is not officially supported and may have side-effects, though I only had audio issues in chapter one, which may be unrelated.
  • Increasing the FoV is not free - this mod increases demand on your system, though most people will not notice a difference.
  • This mod contains extensive rewrites of core game mechanics and may not be perfect.
  • If you encounter problems, please report them to me along with where they happened in game, your system and monitor specifications, as well as what options from the mod you are using

Please see this thread on the Steam discussions for info on progress / updates to this mod.
