As a long time software engineer (at a gaming company, to boot)-- the ShadPS4 code is released under the GPL license, and still (should always?) live on in Git.
This post shouldn't be necessary, as anyone can download old versions via GitHub's releases tab: * Releases · shadps4-emu/shadPS4
The way that Git works, and most organizational policies are set, it takes a number of moderating approvers to push changes to the main (master) branch for a repo. That, combined with the GPL license, make it extremely unlikely that the code will ever actually go away.
And even if it does, an infinite number of copies of the ShadPS4 repository, with its full history (including all past tags and releases), have already been downloaded.
And (GPL again) anyone can repost all of the code in a new repository, free to the public...
...or just rip the PKG installer out and release it standalone. :)
Though I agree that this mod is completely unnecessary because every single change is tracked on github, you can't really fault the average gamer for not knowing how git works. And not every repo is organised like this.
For example, the diegolix fork of shadps4 (which runs Bloodborne at considerably higher FPS on my PC) only has releases for the latest changes: https://github.com/diegolix29/shadPS4/releases
If you want to get an older version of this fork, you have to download the source code and compile it yourself. I'd actually really appreciate an archive of older diegolix versions, because recent builds introduced some stuttering.
The .pkg installer was completely unnecessary, if you legitimately dumped your game from your PS4, you would receive a decrypted folder of the game, you simply move that folder to your chosen ShadPS4 game directory.
The removal of the .pkg installer was done to reduce the confusion from users who thought they needed to install a pkg to play the game, there's no need to repack your game dump to fpkg, only to unpack it using shad, this was a completely unnecessary step and only causes confusion in users. ( I see from the comments here it still does cause confusion, considering these people think it's mandatory or necessary still ). There's a lot of Youtube tutorials out there with misinformation that tell users they need to unpack a pkg.
The change to remove pkg installer literally has no effect on users who legitimately dumped their games.
It's much more convenient, faster and less steps to just move your dumped game, rather than going through the process of trying to repack your game to fpkg, then trying to unpack that fpkg in shadps4.
I mean, how else would the Sony's shareholders would be able to buy their million dollar mansions for their kids if everyone is playing 10 years old games on a 12 year old (discontinued) console. Would somebody please think of the poor shareholders !!!!!!!!!!!!!
i hate tools who pretend like they never pirate celebrating the removal of a useful feature just to grandstand and virtue signal like they're better than everyone else. lmfao not everyone can afford or even find a jailbroken ps4. go f*ck yourself
And it's Blu-Ray. It damn near impossible to actually open a Blu-Ray disc on PC or get a functioning USB disc reader. Trust me, I've spent way too many hours of my life trying to get all that to work.
You need a modded PS4. Some invalid on their discord server literally told me YOU NEED TO OWN THE DUMP TOO after I told him I aready have a copy of the game and proceded to ban me.
For anyone who still wants to use PKG file for future ShadPS4 version, just use the old version with PKG installation => extract PKG files with that Shadps4 version => copy all extracted game files then paste them into the newest Shadps4 game installation folder. No need to dust off your old PS4 or hacking it to extract file from game disc.
Ah, you are a true hero. I wouldn't of known about the installer being removed until I tried installing another game far in the future, only to go insane wondering where the option went. Glad I checked nexus today and you uploaded this older version of ShadPs4.

TL;DR- don't panic

Meanwhile Sony is too busy remastering other PS4 games that aren't Bloodborne
In my case I have my PS4 disc. But my pc does not have a disk reader.
I'd think many people are in the same boat as me
