Slow site and errors, fixes coming
Over the past couple of days you might have noticed that both this site and TESNexus have been running relatively slowly and you might have got a few SQL errors here and there. This is due to a few teething issues that have come from the launch of Fallout 3 Nexus.
On Thursday I discovered that the link-up between the two servers that the two sites run on was using up a large amount of bandwidth that, if left unchecked, would leave me with atleast a $4000 bandwidth overage bill on top of the normal server charges at the end of the month. To make matters worse I was away from my main PC setup until this Sunday evening and had to do the eventual temporary fix from a small laptop, that meant putting both sites on the same server. This is where the slow-down is occuring (because two large sites are sharing the same server) and is also what is causing the system errors that people are occasionally seeing. Sunday is traditionally the busiest day for TESNexus and will probably be for FO3Nexus as well so the site might be even worse this evening.
Most of this stems from the huge demand for Fallout 3 mods that was somewhat unexpected bearing in mind the game hasn't even got an SDK yet. Statistically FO3Nexus is receiving as much traffic as TESNexus, which is no small feat, at around 55,000 unique visitors and 400,000 page views a day.
Over the coming week I will be talking with my main server provider about possible solutions and I'll keep you all posted as much as possible, with the eventual fix probably requiring a bit of server down-time.
Please patiently endure the slow load times and errors in the knowledge that they'll soon be fixed. Thank you.
