Version 2.00
Added litres and extra info to most real-life engine names
Added real part names to some gearboxes and turbochargers and any other unique parts I could figure out (I have not included these changes in the list below)
Gearboxes sorted by drive - FWD, AWD, RWD, 4x4 (all these are front-engined), M/RWD (middle engine / rear-wheel drive), R/RWD (rear engine / rear-wheel drive)
Almost all unique parts renamed to be more descriptive. In many cases I went to OEM parts sites to find the actual part names.
Figured out most of the remaining vanilla engines
Swapped some cylinder heads, valve covers etc from A to B because they didn't conform to the standard A-left (driver), B-right (passenger)
ALL A/B parts renamed to L/R - I did this at the end so the list below is with A/B parts; in most cases A is left and B is right
Bosch D-Jetronic Mechanical Fuel Injection (I6 M130) - Bosch Mechanical Fuel Injection (I6 M130) // D-Jetronic is actually analog electronic FIS, I got mislead by wikipedia; the Bosch mechanical FIS used by the M130 doesn't have its own name
Bosch K-Jetronic Mechanical Fuel Injection (V8 M117) - Bosch KE-Jetronic Electro-Mechanical Fuel Injection (V8 M117) // vanilla game says just "mechanical" which is incorrect as far as the 560SEC is concerned
Camshaft Bearing (B6 M64) - Camshaft Housing (B6 M64) // actually went to a Porsche parts site to check this engine
Front Steering Knuckle B (Double-Wishbone) - Front Steering Knuckle RS (Double-Wishbone) // FS - front steering rack; RS - rear steering rack
Front Steering Knuckle C (Double-Wishbone) - Front Steering Knuckle FS (Double-Wishbone)
Front Steering Knuckle A (MacPherson) - Front Steering Knuckle RS (MacPherson)
Front Steering Knuckle D (MacPherson) - Front Steering Knuckle FS (MacPherson)
Front Solid Axle Steering Knuckle E - Front Solid Axle Steering Knuckle FS
Front Solid Axle Steering Knuckle H - Front Solid Axle Steering Knuckle RS
Front Solid Axle Shaft G - Front Solid Axle Shaft
Front Solid Drive Axle I - Front Solid Drive Axle (Leaf Spring)
Front Solid Drive Axle M - Front Solid Drive Axle (Coil Spring)
Intake Manifold A (V8 M177) - Air Filter Housing A (V8 M177) // NOT a manifold
Intake Manifold B (V8 M177) - Air Filter Cover A (V8 M177) // NOT a manifold
Intake Manifold C (V8 M177) - Air Filter Housing B (V8 M177) // NOT a manifold
Intake Manifold D (V8 M177) - Air Filter Cover B (V8 M177) // NOT a manifold
Intake Manifold E (V8 M177) - Intake Manifold A (V8 M177) // this is an actual intake manifold
Intake Manifold F (V8 M177) - Intake Manifold B (V8 M177) // this is an actual intake manifold
Air Duct A (V8 M177 Vantage) - Intake Air Duct B (V8 M177 Vantage) // switched A and B labels because A duct went to B manifold, B turbo, B head, and vice-versa; interestingly enough they're OK on the DBX with the same engine
Air Duct B (V8 M177 Vantage) - Intake Air Duct A (V8 M177 Vantage)
Crankshaft Seal A (V8 M177) - Front Main Seal (V8 M177)
Crankshaft Seal B (V8 M177) - Rear Main Seal (V8 M177)
Ac Compressor (V8 M177) - A/C Compressor (V8 M177)411
Resonator (V8 M177 Vantage) - Exhaust Pipe (V8 M177 Vantage) // it's just a pipe
Timing Chain (V8 351W) - Timing Chain (V8 OHV) // saw it used on the M117 engine as well so I thought I'd rename it back to generic OHV
Water Pump (V8 351W) - Water Pump (V8 OHV) // saw it used on the M117 engine as well so I thought I'd rename it back to generic OHV
Serpentine Belt A (V8 351W) - Serpentine Belt A (V8 OHV)
Serpentine Belt B (V8 351W) - Serpentine Belt B (V8 OHV)
Serpentine Belt A (I6 2JZ T) - Timing Belt (I6 2JZ T)
I4 SOHC D parts to I4 SOHC Diesel
I4 DOHC TAE and parts to I4 4A-GE
Some more texts changed here and there, also whatever random grammar errors I noticed (Join parts - Assemble strut, Install tire - Mount tire, Increase tuning of a car - Improve car performance, etc)
Front Drive Axle A-C, E, H, J, K, L, N, O - Front CV Axle Shaft A-C, E, H, J, K, L, N, O
Front Drive Shaft / (4x4) - Front Intermediate Drive Shaft / (4x4) // not sure this is 100% correct but this part is not realistic since front cv shafts connect to front differentials so this part should actually be a front differential; still this is a bit more descriptive
Rear Drive Axle, B, C - Rear CV Axle Shaft, B, C
Front Drive Axle G - Front Solid Axle Shaft G
Solid Rear Drive Axle - Rear Solid Axle Shaft
Front Drive Axle D, I, M - Front Solid Drive Axle D, I, M
Rear Axle Knuckle Housing A, D - Rear Knuckle A, D // whoever came up with "knuckle housing"???
Rear Axle Knuckle Housing B, C - Rear Solid Axle Knuckle B, C
// Wheel Hub 5 - left as is even though it's a knuckle - I couldn't find if it's used anywhere
This is Version 2 of the mod, initially named Better English Part Names - Extended
This is an English localization file with many changes.
Reviewed ALL engines and parts in the game.
Vanilla made-up engines renamed to real-life equivalents (all of them are based on real-life engines).
Part names (EN-US) corrected and made more descriptive, in some case substantially so.
Added real life names to all unique parts I could identify.
A/B/C changed to reflect part location (left/right, upper/lower etc) or function.
All part names which refer to specific car names in the localization file (these are mainly interior parts) changed to match the Authentic Car Names V3 mod by SterlingC32.
Also included is a revision of all mission descriptions by SterlingC32 with fixed grammar and generally better language as the original translation is pretty bad.
various minor and major translation errors changed here and there (only if I noticed them, I haven't done a full review of all texts)
As of version 2.0 the "basic" version is no longer included or supported, the changes are too extensive to maintain two versions. If the current version is too much for you stick with the previous one, or keep both, you can switch between them any time from the Language menu.
The new filename is RealEnginesAndPartsEN.txt, meaning you can keep your default English file (or the one from the older version) so you can switch to it from the Language menu in case you need for some reason.
I dare say you can learn a lot from the added information in this mod. I have done EXTENSIVE research, I've been to OEM part sites, Ebay part and engine auctions, I've read articles and blogs. If I was charging $ for this work I'd charge at least $1000 for the time spent, although it was worth it to me, I learned a lot and I hope you do too.
INSTALLATION
The file goes into
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Car Mechanic Simulator 2021\Car Mechanic Simulator 2021_Data\StreamingAssets\Localizations Obviously if your Steam installation folder is different you should account for that.
Then in the game go to Settings - Language and select RealEnginesAndPartsEN
DETAILS
See Change Notes for a full list of the changes (interior parts are not listed since every car-specific interior part name is changed).
ENGINE NAMES
Every vanilla engine with a made-up name is based on a real-life engine. Sometimes the power ratings match the real engine, sometimes not. I did a lot of research to try to find the real engines and found almost all. Note that the game wiki does give some of them but in some cases I disagree and have found what I believe is the correct engine.
I3 DOHC - I3 1.0L DOHC DI Fox // Ford Fox engine
I3 DOHC Turbocharged - I3 1.0L DOHC DI Fox EcoBoost // that's how Ford calls their turbo engines
I4 DOHC AQC - I4 1.8L DOHC GDI // Mitsubishi Sirius GDI engine, not sure of the exact model, decided on 1.8L based on the engine performance
I4 DOHC Turbocharged - I4 1.8L DOHC GDI Turbo // it's the same as AQC just turbo
I4 SOHC ABT - I4 1.8L SOHC FWD // I could not in fact find the real-life equivalent of this engine, assigned it 1.8L displacement based on its performance; I suspect it is a VW/Audi motor like the others but could not find it
I4 SOHC BMJ - I4 1.8L SOHC RWD
I4 SOHC 4x4 - I4 1.8L SOHC AWD
I4 SOHC Diesel - I4 1.9L SOHC TDI TurboDiesel // VW TDI engine; sadly in the game it only comes in RWD in the Valsen / Volvo; so you can't make a proper Golf TDI
I5 DOHC ADI - I5 2.2L DOHC 20V AAN Turbo // Audi AAN 2.2L; engine NOT used in any car
I6 OHV - I6 OHV 300 // this is a Ford 300 Inline-6 engine
I6 DOHC - I6 2.0L DOHC 3M // this is the engine of the Toyota 2000GT
I6 DOHC BU2 - I6 3.0L DOHC 2JZ-GE // if you don't know what 2JZ is drop everything you're doing and go read about it
V6 DOHC AKY - V6 3.0L DOHC ASN // Audi ASN 3.0L V6 engine; engine NOT used in any car, BUT it has an AWD transmission (notice a pattern? a lot of these engines are Audi)
V6 DOHC AKZ - V6 3.0 DOHC L7X // this is a Renault V6 engine, from the Clio V6, mid-mounted RWD
V6 DOHC CHG - V6 3.0 DOHC L7X RWD // same but front-engine/RWD, goes in not Renaults but so what, the game devs were too lazy to make another V6 I guess
V6 DOHC NSN - V6 3.5L DOHC VQ35DE // the engine of the Nissan 350Z; while in the game it is in fact a VQ37 engine, this one goes in the 350Z and has VQ35 power rating, so I named it accordingly.
V8 SOHC FME - V8 4.6L SOHC 2V Modular // Ford Modular engine as found in the Crown Vic, also Mustang GT and many other cars
V8 DOHC AXK - V8 5.4L DOHC Modular // I had mistakenly assigned this as DOHC DI before but in fact the fuel rail goes to the intake manifold, so it's not DI. I have now concluded that this engine is based on the 5.4L Ford Modular DOHC engine series. N/A versions make close to its in-game 400hp power rating, and real life S/C versions in the Ford GT and Mustang GT500 make around 550hp which is close to its in-game S/C version (580hp). The supercharger model is that of the GT500 TVS supercharger. The parts for this engine are called just (V8) in the game, I've changed that to V8 DOHC M0D.
V8 DOHC 4x4 - V8 5.4L DOHC Triton // Ford's truck line of Modular engines is called Triton
V8 DOHC AXK-TRS = V8 5.0L DOHC Koenig Twin-Turbo // since this goes in the Hammerdal Strale / Koenigsegg Agera, it must be Koenigsegg's 5.0 twin-turbo engine. Interestingly enough the real engine is also based on the Ford Modular, so it actually fits pretty well
V8 DOHC AXK-TRS M = V8 5.0L DOHC Koenig Twin-Turbo M // mid-mounted version of the above, this is the actual version that's in the car in the game; the above version is just available for modders
V8 DOHC AXK-SCRS M = V8 5.0L DOHC Koenig Supercharged M // this doesn't exist IRL but in the game it's the engine of the top model Hammerdal Strale / Koenigsegg Agera, so let's imagine it's a supercharged version of the Koenigsegg 5.0
V8 OHV CGM - V8 6.2L OHV LS3 // if you don't know what LS3 is drop everything you're doing and go read about it
V10 OHV MT8 - V10 5.2L OHV R8 // here we're making an exception from real engine naming; this engine goes in the Audi R8 clone, but is NOT the actual Audi V10. It has the Audi V10 performance numbers but mechanically (and visually) it's a clone of the Dodge Viper V10 which is OHV, but also an 8L. So I've named this frankenstein accordingly - an OHV with the displacement of the real Audi engine.
V12 DOHC MRN - V12 5.7L DOHC Lamborghini // this is the engine of the Lamborghini Diablo (the Bizzarinni), mid-mounted RWD
V12 DOHC MRC - V12 5.7L DOHC Lamborghini RWD // this is the same engine but with a front-mount / RWD setup
V12 DOHC ARZ - V12 4.7L DOHC Tipo F130B // this goes in the Ferrari F50 (Cortona I think); however its model is a clone of the Lamborghini V12 (talk about irony... the devs really could have put a little more effort here).
For the older OHV engines I do not give litres because the displacement is in the name (in cubic inches). They are also a little harder to identify because unlike most newer engines, the game models aren't 100% identical copies of their real life counterparts.
V8 OHV - V8 OHV 350 Small-Block // marked as "v8_zz" in the game files - there's a Chevy ZZ series of crate engines. Also there's a strong resemblance to a Chevy 350 small block crate engine.
V8 OHV SS - V8 OHV 409 Big-Block // marked "v8_409" in the game files. There's a Chevy 409 Big Block engine.
V8 1carb OHV - V8 OHV 351W Single-Carb // I compared this to the Windsor engine in the Ford DLC (in 2018) and it's almost identical. So I've called it 351W.
// The game wiki states this is LT-1. While it does bear some resemblance (but so do basically all American OHV V8s), I have concluded that this engine is the Chrysler 440. EDIT: the wiki was updated to reflect this, about the same time I released this mod so maybe somebody saw it. // - This engine has V8 OHV C block as base, which in the files is marked as "v8_hemi..." // - the 6P model is marked as "v8_sixpack..." in the files. There was a 440 Sixpack engine. Also visually looks like it. // - the MAG model is marked as "v8_magnum..." in the files. There was a 440 Magnum engine. // - various visual similarities; biggest of all to me is the rocker arm assembly which is 100% copied from the 440 engine. // - the funny thing here is that the LS3 uses OHV C pistons
CHRG-e E1 - R240 // Renault ZOE's electric motor
eDen-1H - EEM 305 // visually it's a copy of the e-Golf motor, but the original designation for it is EEM 85 meaning 85KW, wheras the motor in the game is 305KW so I named it appropriately
Proton e-R - left as is, was unable to find the real life model
I have also added litres and extra description to all licensed DLC engines but there's no point in listing them.
If you personally disagree with a change just open the file, search for the string you don't like and replace it. Let me know if you have any suggestions or comments.
