1. Main Version (Executable & Steam only for now)
The main version is an .exe that directly modifies the packaged game files and changes the texture. This version WILL work with the Control HDR Ultrawide DLSS RT Patch.
I've taken care to make sure the modified texture is the exact same size as the original in order to prevent any issues with the .bin and .packmeta files. However, I haven't been able to test it a lot and may not have time to do so in the near future. That said, it's a very simple mod, so there shouldn't be any issues.
The .exe file can be stored anywhere, but it needs to be in the same folder as the config.txt file. The config.txt file is used to point towards your data_packfiles folder.
When you run the .exe file, you'll have two options:
- Remove the dirty lens effect
- Restore it
**Warning**:
This mod is currently confirmed to work with the Steam version of Control. I completely forgot it was even on the Epic Games Store and missed the chance to grab it when it was free a few days ago.
Compatibility with the Epic Games Store version is under investigation. If you're using the Epic version and would like to help, please share the path to your data_packfiles folder and confirm the file name of the ep100-000-pc.rmdp file.
Thank you for your support and patience!
Note 1: The executable file modifies the ep100-000-pc.rdmp file. It is advised to back up the file just in case there's an issue. The file is around 11GB so it's not a small one. If you prefer not to back it up and encounter issues, you can delete it and verify your game files, which will redownload it.
Note 2: The executable may trigger an antivirus warning because it is an unknown file. This is expected behavior and can be safely ignored. However, if you have concerns, feel free to scan it with any antivirus software of your choice.
I've been made aware that a mod already exists which provides the same functionality as this version. To avoid redundancy and out of respect for brinx2's work, I've removed this version. If you're not using the Control HDR Ultrawide DLSS RT Patch mod, please refer to the Cleaner Screen mod instead.
Hope you enjoy.
