Blade Runner Comparison

About this image

Here's a comparison shot of the Blade Runner artwork I'd made and my attempt to recreate it (or at least something similar to it...) in-game.  If anyone's curious, my original image was inspired by the boxart of Westwood's Blade Runner adventure game, which beautifully combined the film and PKD's novel on which it was based.  Yes, sure, it's the wrong model of Spinner (2049 instead of 2019), but I had to use what I could find, and the Quadra in the background was just a little gag.

As for my attempt in 2077, some caveats...  Jig-Jig Street is underneath the highway network, so there wasn't as much rain as I would've liked.  I couldn't get a dynamic-enough pose since I wouldn't have been able to use the custom Blade Runner revolver in the pose (at least not without technowizardry skills that I lack).  I couldn't make a more accurate costume since all the long brown coats I found clip through the Solo Ultimate body.  I rotated the Quadra to make a bit more sense with Jig-Jig Street's orientation.  The colour palette is more green than blue, but still, I'm glad I was able to make this at all, you know?

    I remember Westwood's Blade Runner...
It was a pretty interesting game at the time, but it didn't get a lot of attention.
Moreover, Westwood is now gone and EA has taken over.

    Anyway it's really wonderful! 💙😊💙😘💙

It came out at the end of the Adventure Era...  People's attention had shifted to fast-paced FPSes (mine included) by the time of Blade Runner and Grim Fandango (which are among my favourite games), and my brothers and I had to choose between Blade Runner and Quake II back in the day.  Trying to figure out who has the rights was part of what took Nightdive so long in getting the re-release to happen, and I didn't think it would -- shame about what happened to No One Lives Forever...

And thanks a lot!  I felt Ray McCoy didn't look dynamic enough on the boxart, hence my reworking the pose so Helix is in more of an action pose, you know?  I was working on animated version of this scene in my 3D work, with rain and fog, and had hoped to make a nice tribute to Vangelis when he passed away, but I never finished it, unfortunately.
