My Netrunner character for this playthrough. Mata V I'm calling her.

    Spoiler:
    Show

    Without her mask and hood.

I fashioned her after this young woman -- an image I have never forgotten.

My wife has an Ol' 56  Oldsmobile. I just replaced the fuel pump and some brake linkage. It's time to sell. She has it listed on Auto Trader. The .50 cals are not included.

The longest run I did was from my home here in NW Oregon to Long Beach, CA--about 828 miles in 16 hours.  I think I did finally stop in Weed, CA for a couple of hours of sleep when I became so tired, it would have been stupid to keep driving.  Was hitting 90-95 mph (and occasionally faster) on those lone stretches of I-5 in Cali (but with eyes peeled for CHP XD) but there were people passing me like I was standing still. XD

Wonderful shots and love the Tom Waits tune.  Tom Waits' "young" voice was so much different than his ragged, harsh "later" voice.

That's quite a run. Can you imagine trying to do it on the Pacific Coast Hwy. You wouldn't be driving 90-95.   That reminds of the days when everyone, well a lot of people, had fuzz busters on the dash. Yeah, thanks Carter for the 55 mph speed limit.

Smoking will do that to your voice. I wonder what kind of car he had in mind. I suspect it was a Chevy. My Grandmother had a '55 Bel Air, yellow and white.

I once drove from London to Aberdeen 535 mile although I did stop once but not to sleep, just a 30 minute coffee break :))
I do like Waits and Cohen .)

I guess I didn't realize how long the island was. And unless you had an Motorway, M route, all the way, it could take forever.
Cohen, right, compare Dance Me to the End of Love to Suzanne from years earlier. I smoked cigarettes heavily for about 25 years or so, but only smoke an occasional cigar now. Hey, at my age something is gonna kill me -- and sooner rather than later. So, I may as well enjoy life and do what I want.

It's good that you quit smoking cigarettes,
That journey for me took about 8 hours, roads and motorways here are rubbish, and there's always roadworks plus some stretches of road are 50mph, I think Lands End to John O'groats is the longest trip it's about 850 mile and takes about 14 hours.
I'll checkout that song thanks .)

The farthest I ever drove was Gatwick to Bristol in a rental car, I think you say hired car. I just checked , 140 miles, mainly on the M4. :D

Probably that 600 mile trip north out of.... Roseburg-OR I think. We were busy to get to BC. American roads were an adventure to us. But we had spent too much time taking in the sights coming from San Francisco. So we hit the I-5 in Grants Pass to make some time 400 miles to Berlin is a trip we've done several times. Still - not a walkover.
Very unusual for Tow W. I would not have known if you hadn't told me

That west coast drive going north was probably pretty scenic. We took I-5 south leaving Pat's house a few years ago, but it was really a rough road in need of repair. Should have taken US-99. And living in the wild, wild west of Denmark, I guess you don't have to take a ferry to get to Berlin. Makes the journey a little shorter in time I imagine not having to go through Putgarten.

Really a different voice for Tom Waits. Almost sounds as "pretty" as the Eagles version of the song.

Done Johannesburg to Durban on a Friday afternoon for a weekends play, about 330 miles loads of times, done Joburg to Cape Town a few times , 1300 miles.
Used to do security in Joburg, we'd work 7 days dayshift, 7 days night, 7 off - 12 hour shifts each day, about 10 of which was spent patrolling - i.e. driving around, so god only knows how many miles, lol. I CAN tell you that after 2 years of that, the seats were completely FLAT!

That's some serious driving. I remember seeing old folks putting seat cushions on their car seats back when I was a kid. I didn't get it, says the boney-assed guy who has a cushion in his office chair right now.

Tis not wise at all arguing with someone that has dual mounted .50 cals on their ride  😜
    She's a lovely lass indeed 😉

The Gecko is a great little vehicle. City cars don't cope in the badlands. Crystaldome windows beat glass. The only one I like more is the Little Mule.

Yep. Those big ol' land boats have all kinds of creature comforts, but what good is a cushy leather seat when you suddenly realize that you didn't get the bullet-proof glass upgrade? My V's fave is the Little Thornton also, reminds me of a Subaru Brat. I don't care for Panam's or Claire's monster trucks. The ordinary P/U's are all right though. (Says a guy who used to drive a F-450 dually to work and have to park in the boonies because the parking spaces were made for Honda Civics.)

One time I stayed a bit late in Norfolk VA (she was worth it, lol) and had to be at my duty station in Newport RI well, technically, that Monday morning. Was a rough day, but worth it. Windows down, and a lot of coffee got me through it, barely.

    peace out, baby... 🙃
fun set and enjoyed the song... his voice a bit strained but cool
furthest I drove without sleep, Pheonix to Shreveport was the longest stretch roughly 1300 miles. I was going back and forth from West Coast to Louisiana.  Yes, roll the window down please!  😁😂🤣.  Was in a '76 Chevy step side P/U. Stopped at a lot of Waffle Houses back then.

Thanks. Damn, that's a long trip. Making some front page "driving" news. I had a '74 Fleetside Jimmy, drove it all over the place and put a topper on it with a sleeper kit slide in. Didn't have to drive all night after that. :D
Smothered, covered, chunked, diced, topped and so on.

I've been drivin' all night, my hands wet on the wheel
There's a voice in my head that drives my heel
It's my baby callin', sayin', "I need you here"
And it's a half past four and I'm shiftin' gear

I just remembered that I have driven from Phoenix to Hammond a couple times in recent years, but I gotta stop. Texas is a big state.

ya put me in mind of another song there:
I got no time to eat
I got no time to sleep
I got a truck full of stuff
      Should've been there last week
I've been livin' in truck stops
      My body feels used
Got the hamburger that's right, yeah
      The kentucky fried blues
      ~Nazareth  😁
