About Ultra Fog
Now works with any other mod.
The goal of Ultra Fog is to make Cyberpunk look more realistic by fixing overly-bright fog, steam, cigarettes, cigars, vehicle exhaust, grenades, fire, lighting, and other particle effects for ray tracing and path tracing.
Specifically:
- (Full version) Fog is less dense (50% opacity). It can still get really foggy, but now it's not "always really foggy or clear" with not much in between
- (Full version) Increased cloud inscattering. This makes the sky have a lot more influence on the overall scene during the day and in certain weather. I like how this looks in Cyberpunk
- (Full version) Adjusted bloom so it's not so crazy. I get it, bloom is a mood, but a lot of the lighting / LUT mods we use now don't look great with huge bloom (again imo... I'm going for a particular feel)
- (Full version) Reduced brightness of some distant fog
- (All versions) Decreased brightness of many steam, smoke, cigarette smoke, dust, drug inhalers, vehicle exhaust, gas grenades, poison, lightning, fire effects to between to better fit the scene, but this depends on the situation. For example in the car with Dex (the asshole) the smoke is cinematic so I've left it strong (but I have adjusted it). But steam from food, air conditioners, and vehicles is no longer unbelievably strong... Liquid nitrogen cooling is still strong, however. I've referenced a lot of IRL scenes to try and get these right.
- (All versions) Increased the number of sparks for some effects
- (All versions) Increased the number of particles in some effects and improved the variability of particle effects
If you find any remaining particles that don't look correct, please let me know in Posts.
Technical Detail
Path tracing and ray tracing use environment probes to determine how bright particle FX (smoke, steam, fire, grenades), however the env probes were not adjusted to work with path/ray tracing, so are shown too bright.
Ultra Fog adjusts several hundred particle FX by hand (depending on particle type) to look correct in any given scene.
How to Install
- Copy the archive to /archive/pc/mod or use a mod manager or copy the archive file (there is now only one version, since CP 2.1 no longer uses rays)
- Ultra Fog needs to be loaded first to get full effect, which is why it starts with "!!!"
- Play! 😊
Compatibility
- For compatibility with all other mods that modify ENV files, use the Lite version
- If you don't care about compatibility and want the full effect of Ultra Fog, use the Full version
FAQ
Can I use Ultra Fog without path tracing or ray tracing?
Yes! it works for any configuration! 😊 However the steam and other particle effects may not look correct without path or ray tracing
