Pariah is a simple but effective mod that incentivizes observation in combat, aiming, and playing V as less of an unprincipled merc. The mod will penalize you for killing civilians, if the deaths are witnessed by others (who are paying attention). Your reputation will suffer as the populace grows to despise you.

- If you kill a civilian, you're going to get hit with an immediate loss of 1 street cred level.
- If you execute (kill a downed) civilian, you're going to get hit with an immediate loss of 2 street cred levels.
- If you defeat a civilian and leave them alive, no big deal. Shouldn't've talked shit.

Beware: these penalties are harsh and can add up fast. And that's intentional.

Various factors are taken into consideration when determining the result of your actions, such as whether the NPC you killed was aggressive (in which case your self-defense was warranted) or whether you killed someone while your optical camo was active (in which case your choice to be a villainous ghost might leave your reputation intact, if you can find a hiding place quickly enough). If you're wearing the behavioral imprint-synced faceplate cyberware from Phantom Liberty, you also have the (new) ability to activate it before you go ballistic in public--any civilian deaths witnessed won't be counted against you while you're disguised by the tech. The duration of this effect is bolstered by both the quality of the item and bonuses that increase the duration of cyberware effects. But let's discuss for a second what I mean by "counted against you"...

What happens if you still decide to go cyberpsycho?

If your witnessed civilian kills begin to exceed your character level, civilians will feel uneasy around you. They've heard of you. They don't like you. And if the number of witnessed civilian kills climbs further, they will become more fearful of your presence alone. Eventually that fear spreads. People may call the cops or even attack you on sight, if they don't flee. And if they do flee, they'll run faster if you have a weapon drawn. The police will be likely to attack you on sight. This alteration to your reputation is permanent, unless you use a confession booth and pay an exorbitant fee to atone for your misdeeds. But know that Night City forgives, but does not forget. That fee will be higher each time you do this, until you simply can't afford it. And the fee is increased if you ever executed civilians.

So this means a higher power can make Night City decide it's okay that I'm a mass murderer?

No, that's ridiculous. It means whoever controls the confession booth consoles accepts your kindly tithe and manipulates the media behind the scenes to reduce negative stories about you, promote stories that may sow doubt about your negative reputation, and create stories that give citizens brand new things to fear more than you. The consent to atrocity is manufactured, just like real life.

Will you decide to be respected in Night City? ...or simply feared?

Pariah was tested alongside and pairs well with ...

- Behavioral Imprint-synced Faceplate Customization - To reduce faceplate cooldowns, if you have the Phantom Liberty DLC
- Night City Alive - To increase overall public violence and challenge yourself to not hit civilian targets
- Enemies of Night City - To make your violent encounters more challenging and lengthier overall
- Cop Killer - If you'd like to rack up some additional street cred from police kills
