THEY WILL REMEMBER YOU!
v1.3: New Intergang Relationships & Disguise systems!
v1.3.4 is out - check the changelogs

One thing that felt wrong in this fantastic game was that after whacking scavs by the dozens, you could still cross their path later in peace. That's over!
You just smashed to bits 18 Tyger Claws in a gig that went bloody? Well, choom, maybe you should avoid Japan Town and CharterHill for a few days, or face the consequences. And even that might not be enough: with Night City Alive installed - it's definitely recommended - you could still be attacked by Tyger Claws roaming in cars or be involved in a car chase.
The mod in a nutshell
Each faction has a counter that tallies the defeats attributed to V. Kills and takedowns enter this counter as soon as the gangers identify you. You can avoid being recognized using stealth and disguise, but it’s getting harder to travel and fight incognito as your Street Cred climbs.
After each defeat, there’s a probability the whole faction turns hostile. That probability raises with the kill-counter’s total. When hostile, enemies who identify you will attack on sight. That’s true for gangoons you meet in the streets, for Night City Alive roaming enemies, and for NCPD scanners NPCs. You'd better adopt a much stealthier approach of these, they will fight as soon as they identify you.
Each game-day, a memory update is processed. Old kills are forgotten, the rest of them has a small probability to be forgotten as well. Once the counter is updated, there’s a possibility that the faction gets back to neutral. Of course, if the counter is still sky-high, the probability is weak.
The disguise system enables you to hide your identity and/or to dress up like enemies and fool them into believing you’re one of them. Your affiliated disguise has a strong impact in street fights: you can be attacked because of your fake affiliation, you can also receive backup from your clan while fighting someone they hate.
The Mod Settings menu allows you to fine-tune the gameplay by setting most of the values used by the mod. Faction attitudes and disguise scores are visible in the CET overlay. Night City Alive is heavily recommended for a maximal impact and Equipment-Ex enhances the disguise system.
Disguise and Identification are always functional, but hostility mechanisms are blocked for gigs, sidequests and quests - or at least blocked as much as I could, there might be some outliers: file a bug report if you stumble across some unwanted and immersion-breaking hostility and I will wipe it out in the next release. PM a zipped saved game folder on top of that is very helpful.
See "A new, dangerous and experimental way to complete gigs" further down if you're interested in a more realistic gameplay.
If you made it so far, you’re ready to test the mod and get back later for more information!
Kills: when are they remembered?
Kills will be added to the counter once you’re identified and, to achieve this, enemies must see you: stealth defeats don’t count. But beware! If you end up identified, past stealth victories will be attributed to you along with the fresh kill: fight as a ghost, and get the hell away as a ghost.
Enemies seeing you have a chance to identify you. The probability climbs steep with your Street Cred and drops with distance and disguise. It also climbs along with your number of kills during the present fight: your slaughtering methods betray you and thus reveal who you are. Once someone gets your ID, all recent-past kills will be attributed to V and be remembered.
Most victories bring one unit in the counter, some savage firearm and melee kills count double, non-lethal defeats have a 50% chance of counting and defeats against non-humans only have a 30% chance of counting.
Disguise System
It might be a good time to think differently about your threads and stop melee fighting in a sexy outfit.
There are two disguise scores, visible in the CET overlay (see the pictures):
- One reflects how well you cover your face and how hard it is to identify you. Hide your face, specially at high cred, to prevent hostiles from identifying you in the streets and shoot on sight. 100% cannot be reached, your figure and way of walking can’t be faked.
- The other score reflects how cunningly you dress up like an affiliated gangoon. With a non-zero faction disguise score, there’s a chance someone looking at you will not try to identify you but take your affiliation for granted. This is also the score taken into account by surveillance cameras in an intruder alert scenario.
Vanilla game head, face and eyes items are fully implemented on a special-case basis, and the system is compatible with modded clothes as well (Zenitex facewears and Arasaka Black Ops Armor are fully implemented, and a default disguise value for each slot is given to the rest of them). If you don't have Equipment-Ex installed, the disguise system is not quite as refined.
Many clothes in the basegame are tagged with a faction name (see the pictures for examples). Try the threads you loot and visit shops to achieve a convincing affiliation-outfit (Inventory Adjustments HUB allows you to see the clothes tags in shops or before looting, very helpful to achieve a good disguise outfit). On top of that, any modded thread with a faction name in its title or tags is compatible.
Aside from the disguise proper, there are other ways to hide from your enemies:
You’re harder to identify if you’re in a car. It’s even harder if the car is stolen (gangers may know the cars you own, but not stolen ones).
In a vehicle equipped with the technology, activating CrystalCoat drops significantly the ability of gangers to identify you.
The Behavioral Imprint cyberware gives you 60s of 100% anonymity.
Intergang relationships and turfs

[this figure is a first attempt and I will consider any reasoned feedback to modify it]
The figure shows the degree of friendship/animosity between factions. This can be used to evaluate the reaction of an affiliated member towards disguised-V (but keep in mind there’s always a chance they will identify you anyways).
It can also be used when a newcomer shows up during a street fight. If you’re dressed in a TygerClaws outfit and fighting Maelström, odds are good an incoming TygerClaws will turn friendly and fight at your side. And conversely, a Maelstrom member driving by will likely join your opponent.
Careful though, those alliances are fragile. Avoid eye contact with your ephemerous friends, don’t point a gun at them, stay at a distance. They may identify you anytime, especially if you’re acting suspicious.
Note that this kind of situations arises when different gangs are colliding: NCA is the perfect catalyst for that.
Turf plays also an important role. While a Maelstrom outfit is a good choice to cross NorthSide without trouble, a lone isolated Maelstrom rookie walking in Pacifica will likely attract a bunch of grinning VDBs. Same with gangers’ cars: they’re useful in their turf and very dangerous everywhere else!
StreetCred / Living legend
As your cred goes up, random hostile encounters in the streets will start to think about their chances before attacking you and may choose to look the other way. On the other hand, they might gather the guts to fight at your side against a common enemy.
Above lv30, you're becoming a well-known figure in NC and low tier enemies of hostile factions can back-off in fear during fights, buying you a precious second to finish them.
Above lv40, getting closer to a living legend, weak enemies can even even freak out at the idea of being involved in a fight against you and flee or surrender. Spare these harmless lambs, or don't: it's up to you.
Maximal tier and probabilities of these reactions depend on the actual Cred level. And all of this is subject to being identified: they won't fear you if they don't recognize you because of a great disguise.
A new, dangerous and experimental way of completing gigs
By default, mod’s hostility effects are excluded from most gigs, quests and sidequests.
For a more realistic gameplay, you can toggle off Safe Hostility Control in Mod Settings. This shrinks the restrictions to a bare minimum. This feature is experimental and improving it relies on users’ feedback: some quests may be broken (in that case just toggle on SafeControl and reload your game & file a bug report).
A hostile faction now won’t bend their behaviour because you’re working for Wakako. Hostility has impact on your gigs. If you want to achieve one in the Glen, either you wait a few days to let the Valentinos cool down and get back to neutral or you take your chances, put on your best Valentino’s outfit, and walk right in with your fingers crossed and looking at your feet, getting through all the security systems as if you belonged here. Achieve your goal and get out the same way … unless someone identifies you and all the hell breaks loose in a millisec.
Install
Use Vortex (recommended) or manually install by just dragging and dropping the contents of the zip to the Cyberpunk 2077 root folder.
Uninstall
Use Vortex (recommended) or manually delete /r6/scripts/They_Will_Remember and /bin/x64/plugins/cyber_engine_tweaks/mods/They_Will_Remember folders.
Compatibility
The mod is as far as I know compatible with everything.
Performance
I didn't benchmark, and I'm running a powerful PC, so the only thing I can tell is that I don't see any negative impact on performance with the mod.
Known issues
Barghest hostility must be turned off before attempting the "Run this City" mission.
