About this mod

Don't let "Forbidden Armor: Plate" remain a meme! Allows you to specify armor materials to count as Leather or Chain instead of Plate for Forbidden Armor checks. Android-compatible version also available.

Changelogs
Never be locked out of armor progression if you picked or made a class with the Forbidden Armor: Plate disadvantage! Now you can choose the armor type that specific materials count as.

This simply started as an experiment to make Daggerfall's armor progression more similar to modern TES games. Assuming Leather/Chain/Plate "type" are analogous to the later Light/Medium/Heavy (or even Light/Heavy) system, I redistributed them accordingly to give each "type" 4 materials.

After some discussion and testing, I made everything configurable so it will be up to the player to decide which materials count as which types and customize the game to their own taste. In any case, the default settings are modelled on the original concept.

This mod does NOT change how armor works, or the armor rating between different types.

MAIN FEATURES
  • Replaces vanilla armor with identical modded versions that can be configured to count as Leather, Chain or Plate depending on their material.
OPTIONAL FEATURES
  • Each armor piece of a type has its own customizable name
  • Armor pieces that count as Leather or Chain will use the appropriate sprites
INSTALLATION
  • Place DFMOD in "StreamingAssets/Mods" as usual
  • Enable the mod in DFU Mods menu
If starting a new game, once you have control over your character, Save the game. Load it again and all armor in your inventory, wagon as well as any loot piles and shop shelves in the current scene will be replaced with new modded items.

If playing an existing save, simply Load your game and the mod will initialize.

Either way, you will receive a notification that vanilla armor has been replaced.

UNINSTALLATION
  • While in game, go to Mod Settings and set the "CONVERT INVENTORY" option to "VANILLA"
  • Save the Mod Settings
  • You will receive a notification that vanilla armor has been restored.
  • Save the game
  • Disable the mod in the DFU Mods menu
CONSIDERATIONS
The mod can only update and replace armor that exists in the same scene as the player, either as loot piles or shop shelves. Any shop shelves or loot piles that you have already viewed (eg, already had their contents generated) that aren't in the same area during the initialization will not be updated. It is recommended to wait 24 hours to fully refresh shop inventory after updating.

Alternatively, you can force the mod to re-initialize by saving and loading a game to run the update again.

CONFIGURATION
  • INIT ON LOAD - Determines whether the mod will reinitialize whenever you load into a game
  • CONVERT INVENTORY - Determines whether vanilla armor in loot piles and shop shelves will be replaced with modded ones. Also replaces all armor in your inventory and wagon whenever the mod initializes. Used when installing or uninstalling the mod.
  • TEXTURE ARCHIVE - Whether the armor will use their regular vanilla textures (Iron and above using plate graphics) or they will use the graphics appropriate to the type they are set to (Materials set to Chain will use Chain graphics).
  • TYPES - Determines the armor type each material counts as (Leather, Chain, or Plate)
  • NAMES - Changes the short name given to each type of armor piece (eg, a Leather-type Cuirass will be called a "[Material] Doublet" instead)
COMPATIBILITY
  • It should be fully compatible with any paperdoll replacers. Simply set the "TEXTURE ARCHIVE" option to "VANILLA TEXTURES"
  • It will not conflict with the new armors found in Roleplay and Realism - Items, but it will also not affect them in any way.
PLANNED FEATURES
  • Add a "Custom Texture Archive" option, giving each armor piece and material its own texture archive and records. This will allow better cosmetic variety, like giving Chain Gauntlets and Boots unique textures instead of sharing the Silver Gauntlets and Boots color and graphics, or adding more variants to the other armor pieces similar to Plate Cuirasses, Pauldrons and Greaves. Caveat is that it would require a texture replacer be made with that set up in mind.

KNOWN ISSUES
  • DFU has some weirdness going on with checking prohibited materials and it gives me a headache. For now, the custom items interact very strangely with the Forbidden Material disadvantage

Android version notes:
  • Made for use specifically with Vwing's DFU port. I can't guarantee it will work with different forks or projects. Refer to the github for instructions on installing mods.
  • My access to Android devices is limited, so I'd appreciate any feedback regarding the mod working on other devices. As with the previous point, I can't guarantee it will work perfectly with every device, but with your help, I will try my best to figure out whether it's in my capability to fix.
  • Many thanks to Vwing for their work on porting DFU to Android as well as being extra mindful of modding support.

Much much thanks to Magicono43 and numidium3rd for helping a lot with the replacement and initialization code! Also big credit goes to Hazelnut for making his code for Roleplay and Realism - Items available for study and to jodzie for helping test early builds and contributing different features and UX!
