Can anyone tell me what I need to do to the PNG files for this black border not to show up? I would post this in the forums, but it seems a low traffic area
I've had the same issue when I was modifying the Hollow Thief Hood, but I after googling for a bit I found the solution. What you have to do is create a group in Photoshop which you place all of your layers in. Then create a b/w layer, where black covers the areas you want transparent (and white for 100% opaque). Finally, apply this layer as layer mask to your group and save the file. This fixed the black areas for me (though if it doesn't work you may also have to create an Alpha layer called Alpha 1 with the exact same b/w image used for the layer mask). Just having the alpha layer alone did not work, however.

I hope that helps!
