Installation Instructions
- Close DF2 if it is running. Download and install the free open-source https://reshade.me/ application (no registration required), choosing DeadFrontier2 during the installation (locate manually with Browse if not on the list, default game location is C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Dead Frontier 2\DeadFrontier2.exe NB. ReShade installed must be the basic version, i.e. NOT the "with full addon support" which might get you banned in DF2).
- When prompted, rendering API to choose is DirectX 10/11/12 (but if you changed Steam Launch Options to Play DF2 (DirectX 9) - then obviously choose DirectX 9 instead as the rendering API).
- If prompted to select packages to install - select as many or as few as you like. They are not required, but also will not interfere with this mod.
- Download and extract Df2CityCoords.zip (hosted on this website) to a location of your choice.
- Start DF2 (will take 1-2 minutes longer to load with ReShade, ignore an error saying some packages failed to compile), while logged in as a character in DF2 go to any outpost to not worry about Stalker/zombies, open ReShade control console (default keyboard hotkey: Home), and IN THE CONSOLE (shown inside the DF2 game window on the left):
- Settings > under General > under Effect search click on + > location of Shaders subfolder extracted in step 4 above, and then under Texture search also click on + > location of Textures subfolder extracted in step 4 above.
- Click on Click to set keyboard shortcut next to Effect toggle, hit a keyboard hotkey of your choice (e.g. End) that you will use to show/hide coordinate display.
- At the top left click on Home > then at the bottom click on Reload.
- Once reload completes, on the same ReShade console screen at the top click on Searc > type df2 > put a tick-mark next to Df2CityCoords [Df2CityCoords.fx] > click on Active to top.
- You should now see the coordinates display. Hit Home keyboard hotkey to toggle on/off the ReShade console, and then you can hit the keyboard hotkey you chose in step 7 (e.g. End) to show/hide the coordinates display anytime.
- OPTIONAL: if the coordinate display is misaligned with the city's map - while the map is open you may tweak both the layer position and layer scale in ReShade control console. Hit keyboard hotkey Home > click on Home at the top > click on Df2CityCoords [Df2CityCoords.fx] > at the bottom tweak the layer position and layer scale as needed.
Short Guide
A convenient way to use the coordinates display is while inside an outpost to not worry about Stalker/zombies. Open your map (default keyboard hotkey: M), which will show you the Palehaven's city map if you are currently outdoors. Instead if you are inside an outpost/any building - then at the center top of the screen click on the red up arrow to switch from building map to Palehaven's city map. You can hit the keyboard hotkey you chose in step 7 (e.g. End) to show/hide the coordinates display anytime.
Coordinate system is similar to Excel or Google sheets with difficulty color-coded letters designating columns, increasing in difficulty from west to east (or left to right), and numbers designating rows, with smaller numbers towards the north (or top) of the map.
Level color coding:
- blue = level 1 (columns A-E, least dangerous, basic adult zombies, bosses are just regular non-boss adult zombies from level 50 areas infected with worms).
- green = levels 5-10 (columns F-I, adds occasional running, vomiting and indoors only worm infection to non-boss adult zombies; only columns H-I adds new non-boss child zombies and new boss species distinct from regular zombies).
- yellow = levels 15-30 (columns J-R, adds bloody/burnt/diseased/irradiated variants to some non-boss zombies (and to all bosses only in columns O-R), new boss species).
- orange = levels 35-40 (columns S-W, adds cystic/scythed/spined variants, maximum enemy health and damage).
- red = levels 45-50 (columns X-Ad, most dangerous, full game content, adds tentacled/optic variants).
District coordinate ranges:
