About this image

Wislawa Szymborska (2 July 1923 – 1 February 2012) - Polish poet, essayist, translator and recipient of the 1996 Nobel Prize in Literature.

Nothing twice

Nothing can ever happen twice.
In consequence, the sorry fact is
that we arrive here improvised
and leave without the chance to practice.

Even if there is no one dumber,
if you're the planet's biggest dunce,
you can't repeat the class in summer:
this course is only offered once.

No day copies yesterday,
no two nights will teach what bliss is
in precisely the same way,
with exactly the same kisses.

One day, perhaps, some idle tongue
mentions your name by accident:
I feel as if a rose were flung
into the room, all hue and scent.

The next day, though you're here with me,
I can't help looking at the clock:
A rose? A rose? What could that be?
Is it a flower or a rock?

Why do we treat the fleeting day
with so much needless fear and sorrow?
It's in its nature not to stay:
Today is always gone tomorrow.

With smiles and kisses, we prefer
to seek accord beneath our star,
although we're different (we concur)
just as two drops of water are.

Small gesture in my part ;(
Maybe it's silly and even if I'm not much into poetry I feel I should do this. For her and her work

A great picture and a beautiful poem, aesthetically and for its deep meanings. People do not go away because we remember and they continue to influence.

A beautiful tribute to a wonderful talent. That you thought enough of her work and her life to share it with us, means so much. Thank you.

I pamiętaj :''Victory without cost has little worth"

    Ostatecznie zapytaj wujka google

Ja też bardzo lubiałem jej poezję, a w szczególności "Utopię". PS: Znasz jakieś podręczniki do edycji tekstur w Dragon Age 2 - ja walczę z teksturami już łącznie 3 godziny - i umię - werble - uruchomić edycję 10% pancerzy (jak więc widać idzie mi to wybitnie średnio :/).

Leo, it's really kind of you to say so. She was most interesting poet of our time. And probably one of the last people who claim everyone can understand the poetry his own special way, not like they are trying to teach us in school - teacher told so, so you have to believe it, becouse it must be like that. This world lost one of his best people.

Why do you think it's silly?
It's really awesome from you to think about her.
Forget someone is worse than to die!
Thinking of someone is the best thing you can do.
And the pic and poetry show what you feel for her.
    Very kindly from you.
