I just played through this part of the story again and I wish they did it differently. It seems like the broodmother is intended to elicit a reaction of disgust at her appearance that overrides any other feelings. Being violated robbed her of all humanoid/dwarven characteristics. She's reduced to her female body parts both through her being used as a reproductive factory and through her breasts being the most significant/prominent physical characteristic that she has (unless she breastfeeds the darkspawn, this doesn't make any sense.) These features are meant to be disgusting and grotesque. Portraying rape as something that takes away a persons humanity, reduces them to their female body parts, then portraying them as a disgusting creature to be defeated is not cool, her death isn't portrayed as tragic or anything other than an achievement. This also conveniently acts as an explanation for there being no female darkspawn. I love the game, but I really dislike this part of the story.
Coooool edit! DD Hm, which boss is difficult and which tactic... I know! *Risi talks and motivates the group*: We will do it as usual: enter, beat' em up, come out! That works quite good for every fight! He,he,he,....
Why is her face also censored? Is there something naughty there that I never noticed? Man, is that thing ever creepy! I loved that whole sequence in the Dead Trenches leading up to meeting her. I'll support Kapris in wishing for more of such things in future games. Talk about impactful! I still get chills when Hespith recites that poem. And I suppose I am in the minority, since Mama here was one of the easiest bosses for me. I guess she is the kind of boss that really plays to my strengths with strategies. Now Zathrian on the other hand kicked my arse hard so many times until I figured out how to deal with him. Bloody hairless geezer just slaughtered me before I could even get his health down 50%.
I first played DAO on Xbox and it took me 3 days to beat the Archdemon. It took 2 days to beat the broodmother! She's the nastiest and most unexpected of the bosses in the game. They definitely fixed it so that if you play the game in a certain order, you will get the bosses in an ascending order of difficulty. I always do her last.
Omigosh I remember looking this thing up online, and finally realizing how they were made. I also read a disturbing fanfic about the transformation , and I couldn't sleep for days. O_o I hope DAIII will have more creepy stuff like this - by far, one of my favorite bosses.
