I tried the JB3textures mod, while it worked flawlessly—no bugs or crashes whatsoever—it didn’t quite match my personal preferences. The mod’s textures, like stone floors, walls, and wood, felt more like wallpaper pasted onto surfaces rather than natural textures. While the original textures are less detailed and blurry in some areas, they seem to blend better with the game’s overall aesthetic. For that reason, I’ve decided to stick with the original textures.
for me, it only crashes while directly loading into denerim after launching the game with any package/s other than the main one installed.
it loads in fine if you'd saved in camp, so you could always go in camp before saving and quitting. this way next time you launch the game you can load into the camp then leave camp and go to denerim.
you can always load into denerim while already in denerim. so quick saving and quick loading won't cause the game to crash in this zone.
but still the game will be unstable in this zone. like it always crashes for me whenever i start sprinting with haste on. the 33% bonus movement speed is apparently too much for the engine to handle while loaded with these textures.
TLDR: INSTALLING ONLY THE MAIN PACKAGE SEEMED TO FIX ALL ISSUES
not gonna sugarcoat it: if I could unendorse just one mod, it would be this one. female characters' faces and wood textures look absolutely hideous in particular
Could get it work with patching the .exe but darn those characters were dirty. They all looked like they have been crawling on mud. Downloaded other retextures instead and no more mud! :P
There is no information on whether or not a 4 GB patch needs to be installed for the mod to work. The recommended version states that there is no requirement, but the user comments say that a 4 GB patch must be installed. Without the 4 GB patch, I can already play the vanilla game without any problems and I can't trust it because I've never installed it before. I can't install something I don't know what it is just to make the textures look a little sharper.
The game is designed for older, slower, weaker PCs and can't use very much memory. The 4GB patch makes it so that the game can use more memory, which you need if you're going to use texture mods. The patch is fine to use. The game's executable, DAOrigins.exe, is encrypted so you'll need this mod first. It's for the Steam version of the game. (If you're using the GOG or EA Games app (Origin) version you don't need to unencrypt the DAOrigins.exe.) Just drag and drop the DAOrigins.exe into the bin_ship folder and let it overwrite. Afterward, you can install the 4GB patch. It won't hurt your game or your PC to use these two mods. The Steam, GOG, and EA version of the game all need the 4GB patch.
Without the 4GB patch I couldn't even get DAO to start on my gaming laptop, unless I set the texture resolution to "low". Which looks terrible. Crashed every time when loading in. With the 4GB patch I haven't had any issues, game looks much better and loads almost instantly.
I am excited to try this mod since it seems for the Steam version they focused on the armors and characters but the environment could still use some love. Hopefully it will work, I don't expect or need this game to be as gorgeous as my Skyrim but I also don't want it to be blurry and washed out, it deserves better! <3
ps I will say the PC version still looks twice as good as the XBox version, so even if I need to remove this due to instability I appreciate the effort and will be content.

The skin textures that are affected by JB3 are:
uh_hed_dwfa_0d.dds
uh_hed_elfa_0d.dds
uh_hed_fema_0d.dds
uh_hed_infa_0d.dds
uh_hed_masa_0d.dds
uh_hed_olda_0d.dds
uh_hed_quna_0d.dds
uh_hed_sica_0d.dds
Installed it start a new Game and instantly CTD
Deleted JB3 Folder and it works again
After testing several options that I saw on the internet, I found out that this mod was the culprit. Uninstalled it and I can finally load my game.
And yes, I do have the 4GB patch installed.
