About this mod
Removes one or both of the uncomfortable postprocessing effects in all Fade scenes: the radial blur over the whole screen, and (optionally) the wavy distortion at the edges.

This mod will apply to all scenes in the Fade. It removes the radial blur that gives some people motion sickness (or just unhappy eyeballs) and, depending on which file(s) you choose, can restrict or remove the wavy distortion around the edges too.
About
Turning off "Frame Buffer Effects" in the Options menu has been my go-to technique to remove these effects in the past, but that also removes all colour correction (leaving the game looking very dark) and effects like depth of field. This mod keeps all of that intact and only removes the blur and distortion.
A side effect is that the desaturated halo is lost, as it is part of the radial blur effect.
Main files
The main files of the mod are extremely small, since they only change the contents of da_fade.ffx.xml and this was only a 2KB file to begin with.
Both simply delete sections of code that invoke effects (and delete any resources that are unneeded as a result). XML files can be opened and edited in any plain-text editor (ie something such as Notepad or Notepad++, not a rich-text editor such as Word).
Optional files
The optional distortion mask file (fadeeffectmask.dds) determines how much of the wavy distortion is visible (if you chose the "no blur" main file), restricting it to the corners and very edges of the screen. (It will not have any effect if you choose the "No blur or distortion" main file, as the distortion will be completely turned off.)
The vanilla mask is shaped to be a screen-height-size circle on a 16:9 display, which means a significant amount of your peripheral vision is distorted. My version is an oval occupying the full width of your display; therefore only the corners and very edges of the screen are distorted.
It is a dds (texture) file unlike the main files. Importantly, it is an uncompressed dds file (u8888), so if you use compressing software like Ordenador, make sure you don't accidentally compress it or you may get horrible artefacts.
Installation
Extract in the usual override folder (\Documents\Bioware\Dragon Age\packages\core\override).
Main files -- choose one
- No blur -- this only removes the radial blur, and keeps the wavy distortion around the edges of the screen.
- No blur or distortion -- this removes both the radial blur and the wavy distortion, resulting in an appearance much more like the rest of the game.
Optional files
- Distortion mask -- this file restricts the wavy distortion to less of the screen.
To uninstall, delete the file(s) at any time.
Compatibility
Just make sure there's only one copy of da_fade.ffx.xml (or fadeeffectmask.dds) maximum anywhere in your override folder.
No known conflicts.
Compatible with Skip the Fade.

Thanks to blaidd's Pixelated Shaders Begone, which inspired me to go digging in the postprocessing files when I couldn't work out why bloom on the rug in the landsmeet was still so pixelated even after grabbing HD textures for the poor thing. I never did work that out, but I saw a file called "Fade" and here we are!
