Cullen jolted, his boot jackknifed over the chess set, scattering all the pieces. He jumped to his feet, looked at the pieces, looked at her and then sat down properly. Then he stood up again. "Inquisitor?"
Lavellan lifted an eyebrow, studying his expression. "......uh, everything okay, Cullen?"
"Of course. I've--I've, uh--yes. I met with Leliana and Josephine earlier today. Everything is--well, far from fine but...normal for course."
She looked uncertain. "Are you sure?"
"I was just testing the chairs."
The elf looked down for a second to think on that, then back at him. "....for what?"
Cullen opened his mouth, swallowed a breath and managed, ".....strength."
Her shoulders stiffened, running through all kinds of scenarios which might test a chair for strength. Involving him. And maybe her.
She swallowed hard. "Oh. Well. Um." She felt her ears start to burn. "Good. I mean. Yeah. Wouldn't want anyone getting a surprise. Falling and stuff. Dorian would pitch a fit. And I think if Solas looked undignified at any moment, he has to pay the Associate Community of Scholarly Races a fine or something."
That made Cullen laugh.
"Here, I'll--help you pick the pieces up. You can teach me to play."
"You don't know how?" Cullen asked, taking the lifeline she threw and running with it.
"Not a lot of boardgames among the Dalish. Its just one more thing to remember to grab. I know a lot of card games but not many board games."
She noted that the chair did appear strong enough when she sat down.

He appeared to notice the same thing.
