Overview
With the occasional instability of the Dragon Age Keep, and no guarantee that it will exist forever, I decided to look into an alternative to the Keep for importing my preferred character choices from the previous games. Since I don't have the skills required to create an actual tool to automate this, instead I decided to edit the Default World State within DAI itself to reflect specific choices.
One benefit of this is that it doesn't have the same restrictions as the Keep itself. That means you can make choices that wouldn't be otherwise allowed -- such as keeping both Hawke siblings alive, or various options regarding the ruler of Ferelden.
Please note that THIS IS NOT A WORLD STATE EDITOR. In order for the customized world states to function, they must be applied at Character Creation. They will not affect or alter the world state of any game that is already in progress.
Is this mod really necessary? Probably not. But I wanted it done and documented while I still remembered what I was doing, in the event the Keep ever does go down permanently and another solution isn't provided.
How to Use
I've uploaded a few pre-made world states that can be used as is, along with all of the fbprojects so that people can make their own adjustments. I've also included a number of "experimental" world states that include choices not available in the Dragon Age Keep.
Additionally, I've uploaded a document that tells you how to create your own custom world state, along with my current understanding of the values of each of the plot flags. (Most of these I was able to identify thanks to data contained within the World History Editor.)
To use these mods or your own custom world state: when creating a new character, do not import from the Keep, and instead choose the default world state option.
Current World States Included:
-- Vanilla: Three varieties of Queen Cousland as Hero of Ferelden, with Rogue FemHawke
-- Experimental: Five options, including Male Warden married to King Alistair, Female Warden married to Anora, both Hawke siblings alive with different life paths.
Additional Information
I did preliminary testing on various choices, and the results so far are:
-- Male Warden married to Alistair does not properly trigger codex entries; I've include a codex entry edit that will do this instead. Note that this is completely independent of any world state edit, though you'll still need a Male HoF who survived the Blight for it to work.
-- Female Warden married to Anora requires a single codex edit to not be misgendered. The world state is required for this codex entry to work. Anora's codex will work correctly regardless. Additionally, if you speak to Warden Alistair and ask about the Hero of Ferelden, he will misgender her. Since that's a dialogue edit I'm unable to make, I would recommend simply avoiding this question.
-- With both Hawke siblings alive, depending upon which path you chose for them, you may only have one referenced regardless. Warden Bethany will always take precedence over Templar Carver. If both are in the Wardens, she will take precedence in Varric's initial conversation in Haven, and her Conscription Wine will appear in Redcliffe, but Hawke will speak about Carver. If Bethany is in the Circle and Carver is in the Templars, Bethany will take precedence in all conversations. If Bethany is in the Circle and Carver is in the Wardens, she'll take precedence in Varric's conversation, but Carver will take precedence in all others.
-- I didn't test Female Warden with Morrigan because that is handled via dialogue, and unlikely to work in any way until audio edits are possible.
-- Who rules Ferelden appears to be completely independent from your choices with Loghain and the Dark Ritual. Which means you can have a world state in which Alistair rules Ferelden alone, Loghain is alive and well, and the dark ritual was never completed. (Does this make sense at all? No. But you can do it!) Additionally, Loghain actually has dialogue that references a Hero of Ferelden who married Alistair. (Seems like the devs forgot that's not possible in vanilla DAO!)
