As you aren't intended to use abilities from different classes in the vanilla game, there are still some kinks to work out. If you have ideas on how to solve them, please post them in a comment! Skills swapped to a different class won't appear in the Workshop's enchantment tab and thus cannot be enchanted
Skills swapped to a different class might have lower/inconsistent/no damage. In some cases at least, this is probably due to the damage numbers being based on your equipped weapon(s). As you don't have the right weapon equipped at all, the formulas in the background get messed up.
Passives may or may not apply correctly.
When an unlocked skill gets swapped out, you keep the original skill in addition to aquiring the new one.
The skills Chain Lightning, Tempest and Grappling Spear crash the game upon use when swapped to other classes.
Thanks for the guide really appreciate it. Any idea how to modify the statuses the skills give? Ex: swap a create weaken with overwhelm or add a sunder where it did not do anything previously
Hey Gabett, love your work. Do you have any idea if it is possible to swap passives that enable automatic triggering skills (like Bellara's Replenish heal and Lucanis' Adrenaline Rush) around so that other companion skills can be triggered automatically as well? I tried my luck but could only make the UI show the new nodes. The auto trigger effect didn't carry over.
I wish I had the time to make one and incorporate the skill names/color/codes but sadly work is too much right now. Still the link above is incredibly helpful if you want to plan out all the skills you want to swap and have a visual aid to guide you so you can match up placement on trees, resource costs etc.
I have a couple questions; forgive me if they’re dumb as this is the first time I’ve modded something myself (usually I just download and install lol).
I have tried to replace Rogue’s Rain of Decay with Mage’s chain lightning. It shows up in game, I can apply to my hotbar, but when I use the skill the game freezes for a sec then crashes. However, when I replace the same Rogue skill with Arcane shot, it seems to work fine. Is this due to where the skills are placed on their respective trees?
also, is there a way to adjust the resource costs of the skills?
I just tested it and got the same crash, so there is definitely something up with this combination. I don't think it's the skill placement since I have placed skills all around the skill trees at this point without crashes. It's something with the chain lightning skill specifically. Or maybe CL on rogues. Or maybe CL swapped with this specific skill. It would require some experimentation to figure out.
There is a lot of trial and error going on with skill swapping in general. If you read the other comments you can see that it has other growing pains too. Hopefully now that the guide is out in the wild, we will be able to fix these issues as time goes on.
There are definitely ways to adjust resource costs. There is a very crude example on my Gameplay Tweaks mod that straight up removes them. If you want to go ahead, you can start there and see if you can work your way back to adjusting costs individually. I plan to delve into that as well at some point, but when that happens will depend on what projects I'm interested in working on, so there is no ETA. Pro tip, if you feel like you are on the right track but the editor crashes on you with a type error, it's probably not you but the editor itself. I just does not like to deal with some files and there is nothing you can do about it, so don't bang your head against the wall.
Thank you so much for the info! I’m going to continue testing out different combos as well and will report any other issues so hopefully that will be helpful. Those were the only two I’ve tried so far. so I’ll make sure to try a large amount of combos to see if anything else occurs.
I've been trying to get Chain Lightning to work on a Warrior and I'm getting the same freezing and crashing that you are on Rouge. I've tried a couple different nodes for it in the skill tree, and it still crashes so I assume it's something with Chain Lightning itself...
Yeah so far I’ve found chain lightning and tempest are pretty much a no go for any class other than mage. They just don’t seem to work without crashing so it’s something in game causing it. I haven’t tested all the skills yet, but after trying a good amount, those are the only two causing crashes so far.
I'm some kind of fool and I absolutely cannot get frosty editor to work. manAger is fine but i keep running into "there was an error when trying to load game using specified profile"
You have the editor from wavebend's fork of Frosty, right? Latest stable release is alpha5v2 as of writing this. Also make sure to run it as administrator.
If you are still having trouble, try asking on the Frosty discord. There are people there who can help you better than my very basic troubleshooting knowledge.
i've countered some "hiccup" with the swap skill. i swap the Rogue's Explosive Daggers with mage's Dark Squall. The Dark Squall skill exist in rogue skill tree, but the skill Dark Squall itself doesn't do damage maybe like 80% of the time. Rook can cast the magic but it doesnt do any damage. i tried to swap Rogue's Hurricane of Blades with Dark Squall too to see if the issue persist. And the result is the same, no damage.
Other swap i made, Storm's Path swapped with Voidblade is working fine. Rn only the Dark Squall swapping Rogue's skill that doesnt do any damage Did anyone have this issue with skill swap?
Has anybody else tried swapping any of the flaming weapons/shocking weapons skills? I swapped out all of the warrior ones for the mage ones and it was somehow still triggering flaming weapons afterwards. It just now occurs to me that I should've turned on damage numbers to see if it was doing lightning damage... Or maybe the problem was I was testing it on an existing character who had those skills already, instead of a fresh save? Not sure if things can get like baked in to a save file or something
If the passives work like the active skills, then you keep the original skill if you had it unlocked in a save when you do the swapping, in addition to acquiring the swapped ability. Maybe try refunding your skill points, making a save, and testing the skill swapping with that.
I tested, and it doesn't seem to work. I removed the mage passive that gives you shocking weapons on detonation, and put on the rogue one for necrotic on weakpoint kill. Detonations no longer gave me SW, so that trait was gone, but weakpoint kills gave me shocking weapons and not necrotic - think there must be some other flags to it somewhere.
thanks for the tutorial, just tried spirit bomb to thousand cuts and it works tried deathcaller ultimate to duelist ultimate but that doesnt seem to work. have you tried if ults are swappable? im gonna test more combinations and see
Ultimates are swappable the same way skills are. Murder of Crows seems to base its damage on the damage of your weapons, and since as a mage, you don't have rogue weapons equipped, you don't do any damage. (At least, that is my educated guess.) I tried swapping in a different rogue spec ulti, Twin Gifts of Arlathan, and that one worked, for example.

quick question, can we change the effect of primer or detonate from an ability that we swap? im specifically looking to change Dark Squall from detonate Sundered to Primer Sunder. but can't seem to find the ma_abi_gravityburst_damagedata - GameDataContainerAsset (Dark Squall ability). for example there is a GameDataContainerAsset for ma_abi_arcaneshot_damagedata, and in the data properties there is option to tick "can prime" and "can detonate". i dont know if ticking any of it would have any effect tho, but i cant seem to find the GameDataContainerAsset for the ma_abi_gravityburst_damagedata. maybe you have any information about this? or maybe you know any other way of changging skill effect from Detonate to Primer?

Unfortunately, it's not as easy as ticking the CanPrime and CanDetonate boxes. I was hopeful too.
