About this mod

Since there are major problems when the game uses scRGB HDR instead of HDR10 and ReShade which is therefore de facto unusable, I went into the rabbit hole and worked my way to a reasonable solution.
I would like to make my results available here so that others can also benefit from them.

Thanks at this point to @vktrfly, who got everything going with his gorgeous mod and is helpful and friendly at all times, and @MsTHunter, who provided important food for thought.

So, now to the actual topic: HDR works well with Reshade, when scRGB HDR is standard IF you use Special-K.

  • First things first: download and setup
  • Tone mapping
  • ReShade along Special-K

1.  First things firstDownload Special-K.
  • Now start it and it should detect your desired game automatically
  • Start your game for the first time, so Special-K can generate your configuration, close it.
  • Start your game again and set Special-K up as seen in my Screenshots below (ctrl+shift+backspace)

1a)  HDR10 via Special K, in Game HDR must be switched on via Special K options:

1b)  scRGB via Special K, in Game HDR musst be switched off via Special K options:

2) Tone mapping:
In both cases you should calibrate HDR including Tonemap curve and greyscale. To do so...
Spoiler:
Show
  • open HDR Setup in Special K
  • chose HDR calibration according to your decision (HDR10; scRGB)
  • Chose Full Luminance, Perceptful Boost, Color Boost and Content EOTF according to whatever looks best on your monitor
  • It is really important to set your brightness Scale to maximum (400.5 cd/m^2) -> atleast on my OLED
  • Now have a look on HDR visualization and chose Tonemap Curve and Greyscale
  • Use Slider (Brightness Scale, Middle Gray Contrast, SDR->HDR Gamma to adjust the curve. When finished it should look similar to this:
  • Set Saturation to your liking (mine is set to ~100%)

3. If you want to use ReShade with it:

To use ReShade there are different ways [Look here].

There are two main methods, that work just fine BUT in my experience the direct installation procedure works better with in game shaders:

Main Step for both variants:
  • Download the ReShade installer from the official ReShade website.
  • Extract the .exe using for example 7zip.
  • Move the ReShade32.dll and ReShade64.dll to Documents\My Mods\Special K\PlugIns\ThirdParty\ReShade

) direct installation (for HDR10 or HDR10 when you use native scRGB HDR):
Spoiler:
Show
  • Install ReShade via the .exe you just downloaded.
  • During installation pick your game's .exe in your game's main folder
  • Chose DirectX12 in the next step
  • Now you need to select the shaders you want to use.
  • If you have already downloaded a preset and unpacked it into the main folder of your game (you only need the preset .ini and possibly the reshade-shaders folder, you wont need the reshade.ini), you can select the corresponding preset .ini during installation. All required shaders will be selected automatically.
  • done.

3b) Central Installation (for scRGB HDR):
Spoiler:
Show
  • Install Shaders and Textures to Documents\My Mods\\Special K\Global\ReShade

Important addition:

The Special-K documentation points out that the correct use of ReShade when using
scRGB HDR can only beguaranteed if you use a central installation method.

IF something failes towork properly, try it out additionally.

Sometimes you have to re-enable ReShade viaSpecial-K menu (ctrl+shift+backspace).
You can find it under Plugins.

5) Addition & My RIG

Attention
Sometimes you have to re-enable proper HDR via alt+Return/Enter x2.
  • If this does not help:
  • Switch HDR Setting to a different preset and back again (Shift+[F1;F2;F3;F4])
    OR
  • Switch HDR calibration forth and back (Special-K menu (ctrl+shift+backspace) -> HDR Settings)

My Rig (might come in handy if I ever decide to put some benchmark in here)
