So if Mystic Knight was a hybrid vocation of Fighter and Mage, then what would a hybrid vocation of Fighter (or even Warrior) and Sorcerer give?
Using the amazing mod, SkillMaker, I was able to create something that I feel grants the power fantasy that I was looking for. After some tweaking, I decided to share it with you all. The Battlemage vocation comes with new skills, spells, shield counters, and even a weapon counter for Battlemages that want to toss away their shield for a one-handed weapon, or even a two-handed weapon.
Your three man spells consist of fire, ice, and lightning. Each element has a unique attack and they all come with upgraded variants, ranging from the initial spell, to High, and finally up to Grand. And of course, no Vocation is complete without a Maister skill.
The spell list:
Utility Spells
Arcane Shield - Conjure a magick shield to protect yourself and allies. (Unapologetically stolen from Mystic Spearhand)
Arcane Counter - Block an incoming attack with your weapon, then counter it with a mighty swing infused with magick. (A counter attack for people not equipped with a shield or using a two-handed weapon. The attack will also happen even if you don't parry anything)
Cateia - Charge your weapon with magick energy and shoot an arcane bolt at range. (ALSO, stolen from Mystic Spearhand)
Double Jump - While in the air, jump two more times to reach difficult areas. (All the magic vocations get a fancy jump. Well now the battlemage gets one too)
Elemental Spells (All spells grant a boon to your weapon that matches that element)
Incinerator Sweep - Ignite your weapon with fire and sweep it across the ground to set your enemies abaze. (Instant cast.)
High Incinerator Sweep - Advanced form of Incinerator Sweep. Flames deal more damage, and an explosion ignites within the affected area.
Grand Incinerator Sweep - Most advanced of Incinerator Sweep. Plunge your weapon into the ground to set the path in front of you ablaze and ignite even more explosions.
Hoarfrost - Slash at your enemies to conjure an ice spike where they stand. (Instant cast)
High Hoarfrost - An advanced form of Hoarfrost. Stomp the ground to summon even more ice spikes in front of you.
Grand Hoarfrost - Most advanced form of Hoarfrost. Conjure a massive ice spike in front of you. Afterwards, a blizzard forms around the area and even more ice spikes grow from the ground.
Stormcaller - Plunge your sword into the ground and call down a bolt of lightning to stun and damage your foes. (Instant cast)
High Stormcaller - An advanced form of Stormcaller. Raise your sword to the skies to call down even more bolts of lightning that can smite flying enemies.
Grand Stormcaller - Most advanced form of Stormcaller. Call down even more bolts of lightning and leave behind a volt mine to shock approaching enemies.
Shield Counters
Mage's Fury - Parry your foe's attack with your shield to stun them and call down bolts of lightning, allowing you to deliver a massive attack if they become dazed.
Sacred Flame - Parry your foe's attack with your shield, then plunge your hand into them to set off a massive fiery explosion.
Vanguard's Advance - Parry your foe's attack with your shield to stun them, then instantly teleport to them to deliver a massive attack. (the teleport can only go so far and doesn't have unlimited range. if you parry an archer that is too far away, you will close the distance, but you won't teleport next to them)
(The way that the shield counters are set up is that they only work when you parry / perfect block an attack. During the parry animation, press the button assigned to the Shield Counter Skill, and the counter will play out.)
Maister Skill
Wrath of the Elements - Infuse a massive amount of magick into your weapon. After a time, swing it with increased strength while harnessing the power of all three elements.
With the spell list in mind, you now have a choice. Do you want to master one single element? Or do you take a one spell from each to ensure you have an answer regardless of which foe you face? Do you diversify your skills with a mix of regular, High, and Grand spells to ensure you can quickly cast a spell when you need it? Or will you have all Grand spells to obliterate the battlefield? The choice is yours.
It goes without saying that since this is a mod built off of SkillMaker, any of the skills above can be individually tweaked to your personal preference. Too strong? Modify the damage, and vice versa.
If you run into an issue where your spells aren't doing any damage, the way I fixed it is making sure I'm playing Warfarer. That way, I'm getting both my Strength and Magick attributes up as I level up. I have also seen that other people swapped from one vocation to another and that solves the problem. Personally, I recommend playing as Warfarer anyway for the drip. (No restrictions on weapons an armor)
