About this mod
Changes the Dancing Blades of Ranah, and adds two new weapons inspired by them—the Dancing Backhand Blades of Ranah, and the Dancing Greatblade of Ranah (light greatsword). Optional files include a replacement for the vanilla Backhand Blades and the Milady light greatsword.

Don't get me wrong, I adore scimitars, but after using them for so long I was craving something new and I found what I was looking for in the backhand blades and the light greatswords. They both have very, very fun movesets to use, and are somehow woefully lacking in options with only three in each category.
Full disclaimer, but I have no idea what I'm doing. I'm certainly not new to modding, but I am new to making a mod myself. I learned what I needed to make this in the last couple hours, and as far as I can tell and have tested—it's working. I made it for personal use, but in the case someone else is interested, here's a full list of changes:
Dancing Blades of Ranah
- Ash of War is now alterable
- The swords deal slash and fire damage
- Removed Strength scaling
- Lowered Dexterity scaling
- Added a small Faith scaling for the fire damage
- Added a small amount of Bleed buildup (I would actually like it to be less, but I don't know how to lower it)
- Attacks now heal you for 2.9% of your max HP per hit (~35 attacks to recover a full HP bar)
- Slight improvements to guard absorption
- Both blades are buffable
Dancing Backhand Blades of Ranah
- Same moveset as the regular Backhand Blades, but with the Dancing Blades appearance
- The swords deal slash and fire damage
- The scaling is slightly different so that the damage at +25 is about the same as the Dancing Blades at +10 (I don't know how to make them Somber Stone)
- Same Bleed buildup, heal amount, and guard absorption as the Dancing Blades
- Both blades are buffable
Dancing Greatblade of Ranah
- Same moveset as the Milady, but with the appearance of a much longer Dancing Blade
- The sword deals slash and fire damage
- The scaling is slightly higher than a Flame Art Milady, so it deals a little bit more damage
- Same Bleed buildup and heal amount as the Dancing Blades
- The blade is buffable
Ash of War Changes
- Wing Stance is also usable on straight swords, greatswords, curved swords, curved greatswords, katanas, great katanas, twinblades
- Swift Slash is also usable on curved swords and katanas
Shop Changes
- All three weapons can now be bought at the Twin Maiden Husks at Roundtable Hold
Some Notes
- The models weren't playing nice, so I had to use the version of the blades that have no ribbon flowing off the pommel (aka, the sword the Tarnished holds with the left hand when dual wielding). If anyone knows why that part of the model had no physics and was strectched out, I'd love to know how I can fix it.
- I want to lower the Bleed buildup on the swords, but I don't know how. Right now they're using the same param for that as the Blood Dryleaf Arts, since that was the lowest I could find.
- I'd like to make both added weapons use Somber Smithing Stones as well, but I couldn't figure out how to do that.
- If at all possible, I'd love to add some fire vfx to the weapon trails, but as I said, I have no clue what the hell I'm doing. I downloaded all the tools tonight and this is the first time ever that I try messing with the game myself rather than installing other peoples' mods. I made this mod in a couple hours messing around in Smithbox and Flver.
- I'm also planning to add a light greatsword with the Hand of Malenia look and healing on hit, since I really don't like the basic katana moveset that it has when compared to Malenia's own moveset, and it felt very weird not to heal like Malenia herself does while using her sword.
- I've also added a simple replacer for the Backhand Blades and the Milady in the optional files.
