This isn't supposed to be a complete overhaul visually to Elite Dangerous, just sharpen fidelity at all distance, some colour vibrancy, and an attempt at smoothing out the terrible Anti-Aliasing that Elite Dangerous currently has in Odyssey. I think the shader is in a pretty good place and adds to the experience of Elite without affecting performance.
I know that everyone has different tastes and preferences, I might make some additional shaders with different 'themes' in mind for those who would prefer different settings, more realistic or dark potentially. They'll be a separate page on Nexus.
I'm open to requests if the shader doesn't work as well on types of monitors.
I'll hopefully answer any questions you might have with the preset in the comments.
All settings in Elite Dangerous were set to Maximum apart from the settings listed below.
If using the settings in the screenshots you'll likely gain FPS is many area's of the game. Namely the Hubs, as their notoriously bad on FPS.
Any form of Upscaling from 0.85X to 2X
No Bloom
No Blur
Anti-Aliasing - SMAA
Installation:
1) Install an Extraction software if you don't have one, link in the requirements tab
Download ReShade in the requirements tab using the link.
Download this Shader.7z in the files section
2) While installing the ReShade.exe or before find EliteDangerous64.exe directory
ReShade may find it for you, you'll need to put the Shader.ini file with the exe regardless you can steal the location from the bottom of
the window before hitting next if it locates the location for you
~\Steam\steamapps\common\Elite Dangerous\products\elite-dangerous-odyssey-64\EliteDangerous64.exe
or on another drive ~\SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\Elite Dangerous\Products\elite-dangerous-odyssey-64\EliteDangerous64.exe
using the launcher ~\Users\[USER]\AppData\Local\Frontier_Developments\Products\elite-dangerous-odyssey-64\EliteDangerous64.exe
(I'm unable to verify this location)
3) Extract the Shader.7z using 7Zip or an equivalent extraction tool (WinRAR, Windows built in (Be careful using this one))
4) Place the file inside the Shader.7z once extracted inside the directory where you found EliteDangerous64.exe
5) Select the location of EliteDangerous64.exe and select DirectX10,11,12 as the requirement (this should be default)
6) When asked to Select effects to install select Browse and select the Shader.ini file we just placed into the directory
7) That's it, hit finish and launch your game as normal
If the Home button doesn't work to close the pop-up menu at the top it might be Page Up unsure why ReShade does this on some keyboards, mine included.
