Playing the game, just got out of Raven Rock, greeted by Fawkes. I ask him to join me but I'm neutral so he leaves for the Museum of History. Thinking I might convince him otherwise I talk to him.

When I choose the German text he answers me in German text but English voice, telling me he owes me gratitude and becomes my companion as if my karma was high enough. When I fire him and exit the convo, the same thing(see picture) happens.
WHAT?
And before you ask, I have no mods that edit companions.
Edit: Happens for all followers.

If it was a patch, you will have to reinstall as patches cannot be removed.
You don't have to be a rocket scientist to realize that.
So just disable your mods one by one and see what causes this, or find the problem in FO3Edit (faster).
Yup, one of the minor hazards of torrented games. The torrent seeders will put whatever they have up for grabs, often wrong versions, corrupt versions, virus infested versions, incomplete and other trash. Then the downloaders come crying to us when it doesn't work like a legal version.
No ban, only because you did buy it and became legal.
