About this image

I'm bored to tears and it's raining all day so I made myself useful. This is a combination of a Vault 101 Jumpsuit, a coat from Merc Cruiser Outfit and a metal piece from the Leather Armor. Female version was a pain to make but I did it.

It took me a lifetime to reduce clipping from thighs to minimum but it's still clipping when you crouch and the area above the waist was killing me untill I fixed it.

If I look at the bright side, I learned some things about rigging and I always thought making armor mashups was difficult but it isn't.

So, should I upload it or not? And what do you think about it? I personally think it's crap but hearing an opinion from someone else is always a good thing.

"Sometimes I hate modding this game but I just can't stop. There's something wrong with me."

Ha! Christ, that's how I unwind sometimes, crazy as it sounds. Come home from work, have an idea in my head, and throw it out.

Luckily, most of those projects are just for a single pic or two, no plan on release, so I don't worry about it. A few random clipping spots can just be massaged out in the pic's post-edit.

At some point, I think you just have to accept that you could spend another 5 hours changing the weight-paint value from 85-65 and then re-exporting, but no one other than yourself is probably ever going to notice the difference.

@disastrox3 I did that before but I didn't like it so I kept the Vault suit's top. And I like those boots more than the sneakers. Those boots look like leather and leather is durable, if maintained properly. Also, those boots look better with the coat on than sneakers so I kept them.

As for tutorials, I used none. I already knew how to use Blender and it didn't take long for me to figure out the rest so I didn't need any. There is a tutorial on how to make armor mashups by Quetzlsacatanango (that's a tough name to write) on Nexus Wiki. The guy makes good stuff and his tutorial is for someone who already knows how to use Blender and NifSkope.

I think you've got a real swell armor going on there. My suggestion to you to make it more rugged and lived in, you know -- like a vault drifter, would be to have removed the vault suit top and placed the Merc Grunt/Wasteland doctor/underwear tanktop/t-shirt on it. Possibly even using Stanley's sneakers instead of the vault boots. Dirtying up the textures for the vault suit would help, too.

By the way, if you could possibly send me any tutorials or links you used to help learn rigging and armor mash-ups, it'd be great if you could send me them.

@jonas66 Had a problem like that myself when I was making the male outfit. I made it so it doesn't clip while sneaking and when I stood up it all went to hell. And it's not like vanilla outfits don't clip.

@hanchiman I never played Fallout 1 or 2 although I wanted to. And seeing that not many outfits on the nexus are vault suits (except for the Armored vault suit retexures) I thought I could make one. I mean, the lone wanderer spent his entire life wearing a 101 jumpsuit and even got out wearing it. If I was him/her, I'd just put something on it and carry it still (nostalgia).

I'll upload it tomorow, gotta go to work so I don't even have time to write a description. I hate real life.

I always thought that the earlier Fallout protagonist (Vault Dweller and Chosen One) was wearing a Vault jumpsuit as their "underwear" clothing.

I really like the idea of expanding the variety of modified Vault Suits. Before Fallout 3, I always imagined my character wearing a leather armor or duster in their vault 13 suit.

When I was working on making the slinky dress, which crosses barely over one leg, I came to the conclusion that with models that have only partial leg coverage, as opposed to being fit straight to the leg, like pants, that it ultimately comes down to a choice of whether you want it to clip a bit while you crouch, or you want it to look right standing up. I made it so the dress didn't clip during sneak, but if the character was standing, and particularly when posing, parts of it shot off backwards in weird protrusions. The engine/skeleton just is what it is. I just let it clip. A proper lady wouldn't crouch while wearing that dress anyway.

(although, if I think about it, I doubt a proper lady would wear That dress at all. )

This is a nice combo, though. It's amazing how much difference you can make in an outfit simply by utilizing vanilla resources in a different fashion, or combining them together in some way.
