Excerpts From Star Paladin Cross's Special Reports To Elder Olwyn Lyons:

....  Whatever differances I had with Ghost member Zhao Jiao, there was never any question of her competence or loyalty.  After communications with Commander Walker was cut off by that sudden burst of interference, she continued trying to reestablish the link for several minutes.  There was a decrease in static soon afterwards, but we could not get any response.  Nor could we contact the Citadel, Fort Alissa or any of the Alliance settlements to get assistance.

She finally gave up and said, not unexpectedly, "I'm going in."

I acknowledged her decision with a nod, "Walker specifically ordered us not to do this."

"#### that.  Walker must be in trouble, so I'm going in.  You with me?"

"You have to ask?"  I was about to call over the Lamplighter who was in charge of the gate to Murder Pass, a rather insolent girl named Princess, when we heard running footsteps from behind.

It was one of the other Lamplighters, a boy with the unfortunate name of Biwwy, who slid to a halt next to us.  Princess started reprimanding him for intruding in "her" place ...

"(Puff) I have (Puff) a vewy impowtant message (Puff) fwom Mayow (Puff) Macweedy!" he said to me. obviously having run hard.

I kneeled so we could speak eye to eye, and this seemed to calm him somewhat.  "What is the message, Biwwy?"

He breathed a little easier.  "Mac ... Macweedy says to teww you that the Mungos at the suwface awe weaving ... "

Not for the first time, I had trouble understanding him.  "Weaving?"

"WEAVING!"  He gestured impatiently.  "Going away.  Not staying anymowe.  And ... and ouw wookout heawd another Mungo fwying machine to the nowth, stawting up and fwying away as weww.  That's good, wight?  They awen't coming to Wittwe Wampwight?"

"Yes, Biwwy.  That is good news, for Little Lamplight ... "  Jiao and I exchanged looks.  I am certain we both had the same sickening suspicion at that moment.  But we still had to go and see, I knew that.  That was when both our comms bleeped, and indicated connection with Walker's comm.

 Jiao answered first, "Ghost One?  This is Ghost Five.  Lee?  Talk-"

The connection was full of static, but what we could hear of the voice was absolutely not Walker's, being much deeper and rougher in tone.  "I am sorry.  I am not Leanne Walker, your friend.  She dropped this device, when people in dark armor stunned her and took her away ... "

'Enclave' I thought immediately and felt relief.  She was still alive, not that being taken prisoner by the Enclave was a good thing.

Jiao was direct.  "Who are you?"

"My name is Fawkes.  I was a prisoner here, until Leanne Walker freed me."  We recognized the name, Walker had mentioned him just before she was cut off.  "The ones who captured her went outside and got in an aircraft.  They flew north ... "

"Raven Rock," I low-voiced to Jiao.  She did not disagree.  " ... But the Vault entrance is supposed to be impass-?"

"Please,"  said Fawkes.  "I want to help.  Your friend freed me, and I owe her for that ... "

Jiao and I looked at each other again.  She finally said, "He's an unknown.  But Walker seemed to trust him, and we need all the help we can get ... "

"Agreed."  To Fawkes, I said, "Are you armed, and can you escape that Vault?  Be warned that what we are undertaking will be extremely dangerous."

"Yes to both.  I still want to help."

I felt better.  It was too soon to be certain, but this 'Fawkes' sounded like someone we needed.  "We will meet just north of the crater around the Vault 87 entrance.  Be careful, because there are many Supermutants in the area."

There was a definite silence on the other end.

Fawkes's voice then came through, sounding ... odd.  "Ummmmm.  I think you've got me on that one..."
