About this image

My own contribution to the NCR vs TSC scenario.

Previous - the Commander's speech

--------------------------------

Commodore Harkin: "Commander, rumors about a possible conflict with the New California Republic are starting to spread among our recruits..."

Commander: "Sigh... We already went through this topic before, William.

Why would they declare war against us? Why would WE declare war against them?
The NCR would have nothing to gain by attacking us, and we would have nothing to gain from attacking them either. Any NCR victory against us would be pyrrhic.

Let me explain once and for all:

Let's say, for the sake of argument, that the NCR decides they had enough of our presence in Vegas.
They attack the TSC Embassy with ALL their soldiers, heavy troopers and rangers they have in the entire Mojave.

With the Aegis armor project still incomplete, we wouldn't fare better than the Brotherhood of Steel at Helios One. We would be outnumbered. The Embassy would be compromised.

In such a desperate situation, The Swordwielder in charge of the Embassy would have to initiate "Protocol Final Domino".

H: "I have to admit, that's a nice name for a... protocol."

C: "Glad you like it, I sugggested it to Sworldwielder Abbot myself. Anyway:
First, our TSC troops and personnel try to evacuate as many civilians as possible in the Strip while fending off the NCR soldiers. That would also include Families members, merchants and Southwest Freeside inhabitants.

Then, the Sworldwielder activates the self-destruction sequence of the Alien reactor...

And Boom goes the Bear!

H: "Wait.. what about Robert House?"

C: "Simple. From our intelligence, we have discovered that House is alive thanks to a life support unit directly connected to the Lucky 38 Casino's systems. We can't just drag him out of there, since direct exposure to outside contaminants would leave him with no more than one year to live.
Thanks to our superior medical technology, we already developed a new life support device complete with decontamination. This would save House from assured death.
We would also connect House to a communication system to allow him to interact with the outside world.

H: "Sure he won't be happy about losing his Casino..."

C: "Us neither. So, the Strip gets turned into a smoking crater. A once thriving city is nothing but rubble. Most, if not all the NCR's Mojave troops are vaporized. Hoover Dam? Good luck trying to fend off the Legion now."

H: "The Legion... I hope we never form an alliance with such scum."

C: "You don't have to worry. If anything, we would try to reform them from within. Sexism? Slavery? Away with that. They would have to learn how to behave like a civilized society. Their idea of "order" is, in fact, ruthless domination.

I assure you, if Caesar ever decides to try and mess with us or our allies, his face is going to have a close encounter with my heels. And with the Sun.

Back to the NCR. The Strip's survivors will be relocated to safe TSC settlements, de-facto assimilating them in our community. House will have his own place in Poseidonis, where he can contribute to help our economy with the iRob store. Come to think about it, the iRob Mug Collection #2 should be out tomorrow...

H: "And the NCR just lost many potential allies."

C: "You think it ends here for the Bear? That's just the beginning.

The fancy presidential mansion at Shady Sands gets stormed by our Thunderfists.

They arrest Aaron Kimball and condemn him to the Icarus Chair for war crimes.

Within a short period of time, behold! The NCR's enemies suddenly have advanced weaponry and resources.

The next NCR president thinks to themselves: "Maybe... just maybe... we shouldn't have attacked those space guys. We should have kept them as allies..."

Do you understand now, Harkin? Our strength comes not from our military, but from our tactics, alliances, and ideals. War is just our last resort."

H: "I think I am. With permission, I'm going to help Karpov stop those rumors."

Honeslty the Capital Wasteland Brotherhood of Steel under Maxson is a MUCH more pressing issue than the NCR. especially to the TSC's foothold in DC given that the Brotherhood control Adams and the Pentagon haivng the strongest foothold in DC out of any faction.

    Interesting. Two thoughts.

    (1) A deterrent only ever works if the other side at least suspects its existance. So NCR should have gotten definite clues as to the likely existance of 'Final Domino'. Arguably, they are much less likely to do something stupid then.

    (2) " Do not plan by what you THINK the enemy will do, but by what they CAN do. "

Certainly, the NCR attacking the TSC makes no sense whatsoever - from the TSC's point of view. But, the NCR may be following a radically different line of logic, or even illogic. The history of warfare is full of such examples - I refer you to the Japanese entry into ww2 for one. For example, what if the NCR becomes convinced that the TSC is secretly planning to supplent and (ultimately) assimilate them. Paranoia is a self-regenerating loop - the NCR SEES that the TSC is stronger, and only getting more so. Question: Wait until the NCR is completely at the TSC's mercy, or strike now, when there may at least be a chance of success?

Not saying this must happen, since you obviously have your own vision. However, I am a nasty cynical distrustful person - especially when it comes to expecting Politicians to do the "right" or the "logical" thing.

    Keep up the good work.

Thank you. The whole "NCR vs TSC" question has become a growing topic on the New Vegas Nexus image board.

Pretty much how I'd imagine it going. Nice work.

Thanks. Keep in mind that an attack of the NCR against the Embassy would be extremely improbable anyway.
