Exploring around Megaton you find Mr C's Autoplex. Looks like an ideal base of operations, near a place of commerce and yet out of the way of raiders. You explore inside and find it will need some work. So you head back out into the Wastes to scavenge items to fix it up and maybe along the way conquer a world.

If you have previously downloaded this mod, simply download the stamdaone .esp includes any new meshes and textures. and replace the old esp.
If you are downloading for the first time, the compressed mod is the latest version. Do not need to download the standalone .esp.
Description:
In order to fix up the Autoplex, located north of Fairfax, you will have to do some 'real' and 'virtual' scavenging. There are a number of appliances in the Autoplex that you will need to scavenge some real items to repair. Of course you do not have to repair any appliances, but to do so will provide some beneficial capabilities. As an example, there is an oven that you can repair. Once it is repaired you can bake a variety of foods. As you locate recipes, i.e. Mirelurk Cakes, you can make some of your own by scavenging the ingredients to make the recipe. After you fix the oven you will get a cookbook. I also add other notes after some actions, so be aware, they show up in the Pipboy and some in inventory. You will also do some virtual scavenging. Whenever you explore specific types of locations, upon your return to the Autoplex you will find that you have scavenged some of the items at that location and installed them. As an example, once you have visited a diner, upon returning to the Autoplex you will find a table, some chairs, counters and cabinets in the Autoplex break room. In this way you will set up a kitchen, bedroom, infirmary, living room, and workshop. To fully furnish the Autoplex you need to visit a diner, grocery store, hospital/clinic, hotel, school, house, Duce hardware, museum and oasis. There may be one or so of each type that will not cause an upgrade, example, visiting any type in Megaton will not cause an upgrade. If you do the main quest and the Wasteland Survival guide you should find most building types. Whenever you enter a building that furniture can be scavenged from, you should get a message indicating such.
Once you have decided to move in you will need to repair the generator to restore power. After you restore the power you will begin to virtually clean up the Autoplex, as time goes by you will clean out all the debris, then all the damaged furniture, then as you discover different types of locations you will add furniture of that type to the Autoplex. Should you visit locations before the Autoplex is cleaned out and some containers added, then that occurrence will be logged and the restoration will occur as soon as the containers are added, takes about four hours of game time. There is a dumpster out back that can be used to store items until you have virtually scavenged some containers. Until you get your bedroom set up there is an abandoned Chinese remnant sniper post in the collapsed building near the Autoplex. The mattress is portable. Enter sneak to pick it up, otherwise use as normal. When you drop the mattress from inventory, a rolled up mattress will drop in front of you. Position the mattress so that the pillow is on top and activate it, it will turn into a mattress. When you place it, a map marker will mark it's location, Camp Broken Arrow. FO3 does not like using the Move To command for furniture. So I had to use the Place at Me command. Which has problems. I did incorporate the Mark for Delete command into the script so you should not notice save game bloat, at least if it is working. I find a portable mattress extremely useful, but if you do not want to mess with it just use it where it is and the Place at Me will not be initiated. A couple of times when I dropped the Bedroll from inventory, it fell through the world. If this happens and there is not a convenient save, try Player.AddItem aaSWBedCamp 1 from the console and drop it somewhere else. The clean up of the Autoplex occurs over time so do not expect it to happen quickly. If you go about your game doing missions, time will pass and everything will occur, then you can really move in. This is a role playing game after all.
Side quests affected
Power of the Atom, Wasteland Survival Guide, The Kid Kidnapper, Just for the Taste of It, Follower Dogmeat, and The American Dream. If you are playing an older character, then there should not be any conflicts with this mod. Many of these modifications are based on the Quest stage of the quest modified, therefore if you have already completed some of these quests, then it is probable that nothing will happen. As an example, Power of the Atom: Since Burke's body is long gone, the Ranger Shades will not appear in game, you should still be able to receive the Main Force Police apparel from Moria, but I did not test this.
Power: I gave Mister Burke a unique pair of sunglasses. They are Airborne Ranger Shades, with +1 Perception and a 5% increase in critical chance. So be sure to take them from his cold dead head. The next time you visit Moria at Craterside Supply after disarming the bomb she will have a new greeting. As thanks for saving Megaton she will give you a couple of apparel items. A Main Force Patrol Uniform giving you +1 Agility, +1 Endurance, +10 Small Guns, and repairable with Leather Armor. And a MFP Dress Uniform giving you +1 Charisma, +10 Speech, + 10 Barter and repairable using Merc Adventurer clothing.
The Guide: I changed the Shady Hat to give you +1 Luck, +1 Charisma. I modified the Radiation Perk reward. If you have the perk you do not suffer any ill effects of radiation poisoning, the effects will still show up in your stats but they are offset on your Specials. Also, if you have radiation poisoning at the stage just before death, you will glow like a Glowing One. The glow goes away if you reduce your radiation level. Sometimes the glow is brighter than others, not sure why, could be my computer. You still get the regeneration effect for crippled limbs. You basically become a Radioactive Man.
Kidnapper: I play a neutral to good character and so while I wanted the Boogeyman's Hood, I did not like my part in the selling of little Bumble into slavery. Now the Kidnapper and Bumble do not disappear once they reach the slave pens. The Kidnapper becomes one of the Paradise Falls raiders, sleeping and spending time around the roast brahmin. You can make her pants explode for her part in this devious episode. Meanwhile Bumble is in the same slave pen that Sammy, Squirrel and Penny were/are in awaiting pick up by her new owners. By talking to her you can help her escape back to Little Lamplight. She will get back there on her own and has something to say if you ever go there and care to talk to her. She then returns to normal operation, but the Kidnapper quest will be complete. You can get the Hood at any time after you get to that stage where you delivered Bumble to the Kidnapper. The Hood has been modified slightly. It now has the same enchantment as the Ghoul Mask (unless attacked, ghouls ignore you) and can be repaired using Raider Waste Hound Hoods.
The Taste: It seemed to me that Sierra at Girderside would be interested in the Nuka Cola Clear formula for her museum. Now if you keep the formula or sell it to Ledoux, then take it back from him, you will have a new topic when speaking to Sierra. The topic is not available until after the tour of the museum and the conversation that follows. Agree to part with the formula and Sierra will give you a half case of Quantums. Almost half back what you had to give her to complete the Nuka Cola Challenge. You will then see the formula framed and hanging in her museum. You can take it for yourself if you want it, it then becomes a miscellaneous item.
Dogmeat: If Dogmeat is your follower you can order him to "Go to the Autoplex". When he gets there there will be a dog house and dog bowl. He will then stay there until told otherwise or at any time he would normally be fired and return to Vault 101. His dialogue topics may act a little funny after being told to go to the Autoplex. Packages need to be set in a certain hierarchy, but my computer crashes every time I attempt to adjust the package order. A work around is to 'fire' then 'rehire' Dogmeat, then his dialogue options are reset and he will operate normally until instructed to Go to the Autoplex. If you send Dogmeat to the Autoplex and you are far way away, be aware that just as traveling anywhere he could be attacked and die.
The Dream: I thought it odd that Sarah would make you a member of the Pride but only give you base power armor. Now she gives you Lyon's Pride Power Armor if you choose it.
Mod Details:
There are a small number of unique items that will need to be found before some appliances can be repaired. Unique items can be found in the Autoplex (one item) and in two new locations in Fairfax Ruins. Of course there are raiders in Fairfax that will need to be dealt with before you can scavenge the items. The new locations are Duce Hardware and the Corner Drug. There is a merchant named Penny Worth in the hardware store that has a large number of caps, and sells some hard to find items. She is your best person to sell your scavenged items to. The unique items in the hardware store can be taken without offending Penny. I added a couple of images that show the building where the hardware and drug store are located in Fairfax. I did not create signs for them as that is hard to do, so hope this helps.
Other in game modifications. I gave Will Brandice a unique recipe for Ant Nectar Candies. You can find it on his corpse. There is a unique schematic in the Jury Street Metro Station in Ryan Brigg's area. He was working on an Improved Wonder Meat Maker. By scavenging a few items you can build yourself one in the Autoplex break room. You will need to locate a hard to find wood chipper and use some of the rare Mesmetron cells. Once you get it working you can turn bad tasting insect meat into a fortified puree?, you can still make Mole Rat Wondermeat. Junger Plunkett's Valid Points are now repairable with Spiked Knuckles. Cave Fungus now has a better looking mesh, looks like a green mushroom. The terminal in Hubris Comics which has Reign of Grelok now has the option to virtually take it back to the Autoplex. It will appear in the generator room with a Nuka Cola lamp, and a magazine rack. The game plays normally on this new terminal, so you can now play it at your leisure. The magazine rack is also good for displaying your back issues of Grognak the Barbarian. On top of the terminal, in Hubris Comics, is the only miscellaneous item Hula Girl in the game, since her mesh was not meant to be movable she will sink a little into tables. I tried to change the mesh to a coke bottle but it still sinks over time, maybe it is the mesh of the shelf I put it on. Seems the game has a hard time remembering the location of 'placed' items.
Eventually a Pipboy Bobblehead stand will appear in the Autoplex showroom, so save your bobbleheads until it shows up. It functions the same as the in game version.
I like to play a stealth/sniper character. So I created a unique sniper rifle, the Painkiller. It is located in the Pulowski Preservation chamber in the Autoplex generator room. I used a sniper rifle model with silencer, the Sniper Rifle Merc AR50 by 1337Martyr. I modified the rifle to be a cross between the Reservist and Victory sniper rifles. It is no longer 50 cal, now it is 308. It also sounds like a silenced weapon when fired.
I changed the covers of all the Skill Books replacing them with HiRes Skill Books by Obsidianstag. I liked these versions better than the vanilla ones in game, with the exception of Duck and Cover which I did not change. I am a child of the Cold War and can remember the drills to get under your desk in case of nuclear explosion so I liked that cover better.
Nuka Cola Machine: If you repair this machine, it will chill any Nuka Cola's placed in it Ice Cold. There is also a small chance of a Quantum just like any other machine.
There is an Aqua Purifier Prototype device in the Jefferson Memorial. You can take it back to the Autoplex and attach it to the water fountain in the work shop. The water fountain will then provide non-radiated water, all you can drink.
The juke box will play Enclave broadcasts until you destroy them, it will play GNR after you have fixed the antenna, and it will play violin music after you get Agatha the violin and she starts broadcasting. The radio in the bedroom will play GNR and violin music after the same times.
If you build yourself a Chem Lab, that functions just like any other Chem Lab you can get for your in game house, you will also get a nifty Chem Cooker. As you locate certain items you can make your own drugs. You need to have one of the formulations or grape mentats to start the chem cooker. You can make your own Ultra Jet after finding the formula that Murphy stupidly left laying on the desk in his area of the Northwest Seneca Station. You can make flavored Mentats with some good effects after finding the Grape Mentats located in the Shortwave radio post Oscar Tango near Jury Street. This is true also for the Grape Mentats that you can acquire in the National Archives. You will be able to make Awful Good Apple (action points +25), Berry-licious Berry (increased damage resistance +35), Goofy Grape (carry 50 more lbs), and Outrageous Orange (increase critical chance 10%). Each flavor has its' own color coded mentat texture for the box. In the same safe with the Nuka Cola Clear formula is also the formula for Nuka Cola Quantums. Once you get it you can make your own Quantums.
I created a number of books with classic sci-fi covers from books and magazines and scattered them across the wasteland, always at a location that you will probably want to visit. All images are pretty old but please keep in mind that: 1. I do not make any money off this mod, 2. The artist and book are getting free publicity that might encourage people to seek out and obtain these works, I got the images off the internet, 3. I would be surprised if some of these graphics are still copyrighted, many are pre-sixties. That being said the books are labeled with the correct edition, with the exception of six Grognak books that were taken from Eerie or Creepy covers. These are labeled with the correct issue number, just wanted some Grognak back issues. In the Autoplex bedroom there will be a magazine rack, after visit to school, that can be used to display the books you find. The covers I choose are only a tiny portion of the fantastic sci-fi art that talented people have created, I encourage you to check others out. The magazine rack bounding box is not perfect and the magazines will need to be adjusted periodically, just grab one and slowly move it up, this is a nif problem. The location of all the books can be found in the readme that is in the zipped file.
After visiting the Rivet City Science Lab, I thought it would be cool to be able to obtain some of my own fruit trees. You can pick fruit every three days, there is a chance that there will be no ripe fruit. I placed some Pear and Apple trees on the flight deck. You can visit these plants every three days for the possibility of fruit. When you speak to Dr. Li she will have a new topic to choose about Apples and Pears. If you agree to take the plants, you enter sneak to take them, there are only one of each type you can take. Once you take one, it will immediately appear back at the Autoplex, Apple/Pear out back on the loading dock. They function just like their counterparts on the carrier. After discussing the plants you should be able to take anything you want in the lab without stealing.
As time goes by you will virtually move the car body out of the showroom and into the auto stall in the work area. You will then virtually obtain an engine, some tires and other parts. The car will be repaired and modified into a Road Warrior type motif and moved back into the show room.
There is a workbench you can fix. It will come with a schematic workbench, an ammo reloader, an electron charge converter, and a shortwave radio. The ammo reloader will convert one type of ammo into another. There is also a new item, gunpowder. By using gunpowder and scrap metal you can make your own ammo. The gunpowder is found randomly in containers that would also have ammo in it. The electron charge converter will convert various energy cell types, The shortwave radio plays 10 random radio transmissions. Five are from the game and five are ripped from: 3 Stooges, Forbidden Planet, Time Machine 1960, 2001 Space Odyssey, and Dogs barking Jingle Bells.
You can visit Moria in Megaton and she will have a new topic about a Pack Brahmin for Sale. You can purchase a Pack Brahmin named Kali from her. Kali will be waiting for you outside the Megaton gate where the caravans stop. Kali acts like any other follower, so be careful when entering buildings. If you can train yourself to just have her Stay before you enter an area, then she will be there when you return, much as one would do in real life. You can command her to Follow, Stay, Go Home (to the Autoplex), or Access Inventory. She is essential so you do not need to worry about her being killed. She can be found grazing around the awning near where Dogmeat also stays at the Autoplex if commanded to Go Home. I have had her stop along the way when commanded to Go to the Autoplex, not sure why she stopped, maybe was attacked, so just be aware. She can carry a lot of stuff. I wanted some way to carry all my scavenged junk without having to fast travel back to the Autoplex all the time, plus having items available to sell to traders. If told to Stay, a monument map marker will appear at her location on the map, Kali Grazing Location. She hasn't wandered away on me but I am sure that that may be possible. I apologize now if she does. If you just cannot find her try from console, Player.MoveTo ObjectId 100 0 0. My object id for Kali is x07513a where 'x' is the mod load order number, your load number will be unique to how many mods you load.
When I was laying out the Autoplex, I deleted some trees. This was before I knew of a glitch in FO3 where the landscape render engine will render landscape while running a mod even though something was deleted. I would have just disabled it if I had known. Some of the trees near the Autoplex were floating in the air. I adjusted the landscape and navmesh, it looks okay now. Some of the deleted trees appear black in game, but they look as if they were burned in a fire, so they are not to distracting.
You do not need any other mods to run this mod, everything is included in the data folders.

To add the topic SWSticky, I used the quest variable Mayor MacCready access. I am usually pretty good at scripting, but I made the mistake of increasing the variable by 1. If the player had not spoken to MacCready before that change, then MacCready would not have the dialogue topic to open the gate to Murder Pass and the player would have to tcl through the gate to continue. I corrected the script. Now the access variable is not changed, the SWSticky topic is still added, and a doonce variable conditions controls the if statement. I also reset access to 1 if it was set to 2 previously. So now I do not mess up MQ06 and the SWSticky topic is added.

When I manually cleaned the mod, I inadvertantly deleted the Corner Drug worldspace. I have returned the Corner Drug to the mod. I play tested the mod up to the clean out of debris, obtaining all items to that point, ie Kali, armor, sniper rifle, traded with penny in hardware store, entered drug store, etc.

Realized that needed voice files for Bumble and Éclair in Little Lamplight.

I had to rebuild my computer and I upgraded to Win 7. When I did that FO3 started crashing on saves. I found on the internet that that was a problem and tried the many fixes, none of which worked. I then replaced the 2.0 esp with the 1.0 esp and there were no more crashes. I play tested the 2.0 mod attempting to troubleshoot when the crashes started. There was no time I could determine when the mod started having problems. So I manually cleaned the mod again, I had cleaned it before but automatically. I did not find anything that I thought was causing a problem, but I did fix some effects and stuff that I had moved accidently. Well the mod has been working fine for over 50 gamehours. I found all the different building types, except oasis, most of the recipes, completed the Nuka Cola challenge, built the Improved Wonder Meat Maker, sent Bumble to Paradise, and did most of the other stuff.
I did fix a bug with the ammo press, so that is working now, it would get locked in a loop if you did not have a certain type of ammo.
I updated the text for the Wasteland Cook Book to include the Grill out back.
I also created voice files for Buying Kali, Fruit Trees, and Trading the Nuka Cola Clear Formula. Sorry I am not a voice actor, nor female, so I tried to be a little bland. Hope it is not to unbearable. The other version does not have the voice files, but does have 9 second silence files.
Sorry it took so long troubleshooting and fixing this mod.

I am calling this revision 2.0 because unless someone finds a bug, then I do not plan to make anymore changes. I have also made the following 'improvements'.
Kali is now sold by Moria in Megaton and not Uncle Roe in Canterbury Commons. It is just so nice to have a pack animal right off the bat, and Canterbury is so far away and not part of the main quest. Go see Moria about buying a Pack Brahmin. I just changed all the dialogue from Uncle Roe to Moria and changed some of the conversation.
You now have another topic when activating Kali. If you have a stimpak you can restore Kali's health. Although Kali is essential, she looked ackward limping aroung. She is also healed if she is instructed to Go to the Autoplex and she gets within a few units of her Autoplex marker.
Added a Rivet City type trunk to the shop area for clothing.
Added three display cases to the showroom. They are rotated and stick out of the wall.
Created world meshes for all recipes/notes, so now you can set Murphy's Ultrajet Formula next to the Chem Cooker.
Now you can bake a birthday cake after you get the recipe from Eclair in Little Lamplight. He makes one for all the kids when they become Mungo's.
There were not enough selections when activating the oven to be able to make the birthday cake, so I added a barbeque out back. Now you use the barbeque for cooking meats and the oven for baking. I added Steamed Softshell Mirelurk meat to the barbeque.
Added a sound when activating the Improved Wonder Meat Maker.
Moved Grognak 133 in Hubris Comics from the conveyer belt to under the stairs next to a scoped 44, for some reason it would disappear, maybe it was blown somewhere during a firefight.
Moved the unique book in Three Dog's area to the other side of his radio station area. It was hard to take because of the machinery bounding box.
Tried to fix the shortwave radio one more time. I am beginning to think it must be my script. I generate a random number to determine which broadcast to use, maybe FO3 does not like the way I do it. Still, it seems to work more consistently. Sometimes I activate it twice and it starts to work correctly.
Added the Ghoul Mask to Roy Phillips corpse if he dies. I did not care that Roy takes out the trash after a while and I like to collect the unique items.
Likewise the Naughty Nightwear that you give Roland can be found stashed in his locker.
A comment was made that this mod was loaded after Dr Li had left the wasteland and therefore the fruit trees could not be taken. Now if one loads the mod and the player is level 20 or higher, then the player can just go take the trees, enter sneak to pick one up. If you are under level 20, locate Dr Li before she leaves as this is a scripted event.

It was reported that when playing a female charater the topic from Dr Li offering Apples and Pears would not be available. There were two greetings one male and one female, the female greeting did not have the AddTopic SWOfferPlants, now it does. I also moved the topic over to the DialogueRivetCity quest.

It was reported that when starting a new game, all of the Found Location messages would appear. The scripted conditions should only show the message if the player visits a specific location. I did use nested if statements. Possibly this will occasionally cause the script to misread the conditions. I tried to recreate this on my machine and it did not occur. Anyway I rewrote script using if elseif trees, not as compact but this bug should be done.

Needed to do a little clean up. The tombstones in the shop area did not disable when the Road Warrior Corvega appeared. Now they should disable along with the rest of the damaged car body.
There is no need to download either the compressed file or the esp file. You can just go to console, select the tombstone with the cursor, and type disable.

Two bugs have been fixed. The first one fixes a problem with the ammo reloader and energy cell converter. If you selected cancel from the 'Convert TO' menu then the script would not properly set a menu variable. This caused the device to not function.
The second one fixes the shortwave radio. There was a chance that the radio broadcast state would be set off, and then the radio would no longer function.
The fixes will correct either problem, even after the bug has been activated.
