About this mod

Have you ever played through Fallout 3, wishing there was something that fixed so many of the story's roleplaying flaws while staying immersive? This mod series aims to fix Fallout 3's story (At least somewhat) while staying true to the original core design and lore of the game.

Requirements
Permissions and credits
Changelogs
TTW version here: https://www.nexusmods.com/newvegas/mods/91737

This mod series will add and remove things from the base game in order to improve the story and player experience. Annoyed by the long intro but still want to experience parts of it? Now you can! Want to properly talk to the first guard you see, and escape the vault without killing anyone? You are no longer required to fight or run away from all of the guards (Except the ones which wont follow you at the vault exit.). A proper pacifist roleplay is possible for the intro now!

Everything this mod does:
  • The Baby and Birthday sequences are skipped, now you are sent to do the GOAT.
  • GOAT test answers are rewritten to make more sense for their aligned skills
  • Officer Kendal is dead when you find him, implying the radroaches killed him
  • Officer Gomez will have another dialogue option, allowing you to surrender to the Overseer, teleporting you to the hallway in front of the room he and Amata are in.
  • The Overseer’s (nearby) guards are neutral to you in order to allow you to talk peacefully to the overseer without bloodshed.
  • Jonas will have another note on him, explaining that Dad left about two weeks ago.
What this mod does NOT do:
  • Create a new intro
  • Change the general feel of the intro

Updates:
1.01.00:
  • Made all NPC's during "Escape!" Non-essential, making sure that if any of the previous essential NPC's die (Amata, Andy, and Stanley) the "Trouble In The Homefront" quest will never be available.
  • Changed the first Time Skip slide to say "SIXTEEN YEARS LATER" instead of "SIX YEARS LATER"
  • Added to Jonas's note, explaining that he also lied to the Player

1.02.00:
  • Various bug fixes (Overseer agroed with player before talking, time skip messages not playing, etc.)
  • Butch won’t become a companion if you let his mom die
  • Voice acting for new voice lines is now added! (Sorry about MY voice acting, but CXXIII is the goat)
  • The Overseer’s terminal password isn’t in the locker anymore, but can only be obtained if you kill the Overseer
  • You can experience the baby and birthday parts of the intro if you explore Vault 106 and reach a certain living quarters
  • New Dialogue is added for during the birthday
  • Dialogue is also added to not be forced to kill the radroach
  • Made Officer Kendal still alive, but you can have Amata distract him before she leaves with a Charisma check. This is even more lore-friendly and adds to the role-playing to the game, allowing you to talk your way out of combat rather than being forced to run away.
  • Added a little bit to the end of the intro cinematic, fixing the issue when Ron Perlman lied to the player. (This is why the download is so much bigger now, sorry :/)

Officer Gomez: CXXIII

"This mod series is not lore friendly, it changes what's canon!" There is a canon ending to Fallout 3 where you join the Brotherhood of Steel and activate the Purifier. However, there are also non-canon choices you can make, such as poisoning the water or destroying the Brotherhood. The mod series provides more role-play options and enhances the story while staying true to the lore. Only non-canon parts have been changed to make more sense in the game world, keeping the canon intact as much as possible.
For example, it is not canon to blow up Megaton. Since your dad's reaction to this is not canon either, I have the liberty to change his dialogue, making him sound more disappointed and disgusted with you. This still makes sense within the game world.
Obviously, certain liberties must be taken when defining what is canon or not, like what the Lone Wanderer says in certain situations. But the role-playing aspect of the game allows for wiggle room in this regard. The dialogue choices are a basic understanding of what your character said, and you can role-play that the Lone Wanderer said exactly what the original dialogue said.
“What about things that add lore, like Jonas’s note that explains Dad left two weeks ago?” Since it is not canon for the Lone Wanderer to figure out this kind of behind-the-scenes lore, no matter what the extra lore may be, it will remain non-canon since it would never be verified as true from the canon story. However, I did my best to stay true to the lore when adding extra lore elements, making sure it doesn't conflict with the rest of the story.

Requires:
  • A new game, all changes can only be seen with a new game.
  • Fallout 3 version 1.7.0.3
  • Broken Steel for (Some?) reason (I'm too lazy to remove the requirement, so...)

Install:
Either  extract the contents of the folder and drop the file into your data folder then enable it in the "Data files" part of the launcher, or use your mod installer of choice.

I plan on porting this to TTW eventually, but anyone is allowed to create their own port. Anyone can use this mod and expand on it with
another mod or mod pack, just give me credit as the original author.

Thanks:
I would like to say thanks to Bethesda for making Fallout 3 and the GECK, the TTW discord server for helping me through the entire process, my mom, CXXIII for being such a great voice actor, and everyone that installs this mod. :)
