About this mod
Fixes the Metro Tunnels and Downtown DC, making it immensely better than the base game.

This did come with some cuts for some dungeons unfortunately, but I tried to keep anything from the base game that was either interesting (In my humble opinion) or had anything unique to offer. If it had a cool story other than “I found *insert enemy type* and killed them” it will probably be there.
The new way to get around is to find a metro gate which takes you to Metro Central. This is the new Metro hub, where (most of) DC is accessible. You just need to look at one of the metro maps, and if you want to go somewhere go to the floor which corresponds with that station color. For example, if you want to get to Dupont Circle, you would look at the metro map displayed around the place. The map shows that Dupont Circle is on a red line. So, we’ll go to the Metro Central floor which is labeled as “Red”, follow the signs, and voila! No more following the quest marker and hoping for the best when it inevitably fails on you, now you can explore DC in an easy way. (Or use the more consistent map marker)
For the stations that are not on a white or red line, you have to find their wasteland entrance.
Everything this mod does:
- Clear rubble in certain places to guide the player easily
- Add rubble in places that were essentially empty space, making it clear which way to not go
- Make misc. Landscape changes for the same reasons (Ex. Adding stairs in places they’re needed.)
- Link certain Metro gates above ground to the Metro Central Station, meaning there is now a universal hub that makes most of the DC cells accessible at once (Any that are not part of the red or white line on the map must be entered via a Wasteland Access point.)
- Cut some redundant Metro tunnels for less needed navigation, making it easy to get to Metro Central and thus anywhere else
- Keep most outside wasteland access points, keeping the multiple ways to get into the metros
- Remove a bunch of unnecessary map markers, making it much easier to plan out an expedition into DC.
- Keep all above ground Downtown DC cells accessible
- Light up the station signs in Metro Central to easily see which places to go
Everything this mod does NOT do:
- Make Downtown DC an open city (Similar to Fallout 4’s downtown Boston)
- Change the designs, lighting, or enemy placements of the metro Tunnels unless necessary (Ex. Removing enemies trapped behind new rubble) and adding variety between them (Maybe if someone says please?), basically they’re not interesting, just easier to explore.
- Add new rewards for exploring (Anyone has the right to use my mod to do so, if there’s some schematics missing or something let me know and I’ll fix it.)
- Retexture the In-Game Metro Map to only include explorable areas, and overall make more sense. (I WILL add this, I just don’t want to get burnt out before I make this public) (Update: This will take a while, and you may see some of my other mods uploaded before this feature is added, as I have an issue with the texture not properly rendering inside the game)
- Fix your parents marriage (Your parents are still divorced, Timmy)
QnA:
- "But I liked how the Metro Tunnels were before!" Then don’t download the mod, easy fix.
- "Why are dungeons cut?! This mod just removes content!" The vast majority of the tunnels are the exact same, cutting some of them is a service in itself. Still, if you find anything that absolutely needs to be added back in (Schematics I missed, etc.) then please let me know!
- "Why am I stuck in rubble/a dungeon without exits?" Because you’re inside an area that was cut from the mod. I didn’t delete a lot, I simply moved door references, rubble, etc. to make sense. Make sure to disable the mod, exit any dungeons, dc ruins, metro stations, or tunnels in case the one you’re in was affected, re-enable my mod, then you’ll be fine. I guess also don’t leave companions or anything else important in them before enabling my mod.
- "Why has this taken so long to do from anyone?" 1) Because it’s a lot of work to go through every single tunnel+station to edit all of them, and 2) there’s not enough content inside the DC ruins to justify all the work that goes into it. For me, it was just a thing I wanted fixed, so I fixed it.
- "Why are you so cool, yet do something so worthless?!" Because I’m built different.
- "Some areas feel empty!" This is because I removed some of the rubble to make explorable paths more obvious. If I ever work on making the tunnels and DC pretty, I will try to add cars and stuff to the empty spaces.
- "Wait, why does your tag say lore friendly when you’re removing established settings?" There’s nothing of story significance that happens in the places I outright removed. Therefore, from a storytelling perspective, it keeps the lore intact and is thus lore friendly. There aren’t such drastic changes that it changes the story :P
- "There’s some “blurry” areas in certain places, for example Dupont Circle." Unfortunately, I do not know how to fix this. If someone knows how to, plz let me know :D
- "Is there a TTW version?" Not right now, I may make a TTW later on, but anyone is free to do it themselves :)
- "Why would I want to explore the DC ruins if there aren’t any cool stories or rewards?" *shrug* I dunno.
Requirements:
- Fallout 3 version 1.7.0.3
- A character outside of the affected areas.
Install: Either extract the folders contents and put them into your Data folder, or use your mod organizer of choice.
I plan on eventually porting this to TTW, but I give permission to anyone that wants to do it. You can use this mod for your own projects or mods, just credit me as the original author and do not monetize that work unless I explicitly give you permission.
Thanks: I would like to say thanks to Bethesda for making Fallout 3 and the GECK, the TTW discord server for helping me through the entire process, my mom, and everyone that installs this mod. :)
