About this mod
Have you ever played through Little Lamplight, disappointed by all of the breaks in immersion and role-playing opportunities? Did you want a mod which added all of this and more while staying immersive? This mod series aims to fix Fallout 3's story (At least somewhat) while staying true to the original core design and lore of the game.

This mod series will add and remove things from the base game in order to improve the story and player experience, to add more role-playing options and lore to the game. Wish there was a way to threaten MacCready and have him let you inside? Now you can threaten children! Perhaps you want to skip Little Lamplight entirely? Now you can go through the front door, after some rads of course!
Everything this mod does:
- You can intimidate MacCready with either low karma or a Strength check.
- Made the outside of Vault 87 more aesthetically pleasing
- You can just open the back gate in Little Lamplight, rather than needing someone else to do it for you.
- Both gates in Little Lamplight are more heavily guarded, explaining how they’ve stopped enemies from getting in.
- Adds a note inside the souvenir shop to further explain things in little lamplight, like where all the kids come from
- The opening of Vault 87 and the chamber with the GECK both have less rads, but still enough to serve as a challenge
- You can enter through the main vault door rather than through Little Lamplight.
- A note is added on Sid’s body (One of the Captee's in Vault 87) to add lore about the Super Mutant’s goals and methods of executing them, making their story actually pretty good
- The Enclave’s flash grenade works faster so that it makes sense that you wouldn’t have time to react, rather than being able to
walk out of the room just to be teleported right backaway just to be teleported right back - After getting captured, if you come back you’ll see a nice little detail outside Vault 87 ;)
- Quest objective descriptions are edited to make more sense with given changes
Everything this mod does NOT do:
- Make it possible to kill the residents of Little Lamplight (There are mods for that already)
- Change the characters/story in any drastic way
- Make it easier to get inside Vault 87 (The rads can still kill you, even with Rad-X and a radiation suit)
QnA
- "This mod barely does anything, it's useless!" Then don't download it. I'm overhauling the entire main story for Christ's sake, some parts of this series will be smaller than others.
- "Why isn't x choice possible/Why isn't x thing fixed?" Probably because I didn't think about it, I may or may not add some interesting ideas you comment on this page (I will give credit if I do use your ideas)
- "I can't pacifist Vault 87." Yes you can, it's called a Stealth Boy. There is not a good way story wise to allow the player inside the vault, have them grab the GECK, all without making the Super Mutants upset at any point. I think it's okay because even in New Vegas, to pacifist the game you have to either run or sneak past at least some enemies. It's also easier to get past the Super Mutants from the front entrance rather than the back entrance from Little Lamplight.
- "Why don't I see Fawkes if I go through the front entrance?" You can, the quest description and the rads in the GECK room all encourage you to explore the rest of the Vault, which should still be accessible.
For example, it is not canon to blow up Megaton. Since your dad's reaction to this is not canon either, I have the liberty to change his dialogue, making him sound more disappointed and disgusted with you. This still makes sense within the game world.
Obviously, certain liberties must be taken when defining what is canon or not, like what the Lone Wanderer says in certain situations. But the role-playing aspect of the game allows for wiggle room in this regard. The dialogue choices are a basic understanding of what your character said, and you can role-play that the Lone Wanderer said exactly what the original dialogue said.
“What about things that add lore, like the note in Moriarty's terminal, which explains where his alcohol comes from?” Since it is not canon for the Lone Wanderer to figure out this kind of behind-the-scenes lore, no matter what the extra lore may be, it will remain non-canon since it would never be verified as true from the canon story. However, I did my best to stay true to the lore when adding extra lore elements, making sure it doesn't conflict with the rest of the story.
Requirements:
- A character which has not yet gone through Vault 87 or Little Lamplight, as all changes can only be seen if they haven't happened yet.
- Fallout 3 version 1.7.0.3
