For this to work, you must go into your FALLOUT.ini (located in "*yourdrive*:\Documents and Settings\*yourname*\My Documents\My Games\Fallout3"), and change this line:
"bInvalidateOlderFiles=0"
to this:
"bInvalidateOlderFiles=1"

This mod is to add more life and death to the wasteland, in the form of sounds. Sometimes you might hear some mutant in the distance, gunfire, who knows! Due to the nature of the sound system, the sounds are chosen at random - you could easily get a symphony of gunshots in the distance, just assume it's a battle going on. Maybe you'll hear an owl, or a crow. Maybe a mosquito will come for your blood, or perhaps you might step too close to a snake.

The unfortunate truth is, they aren't -really- there, it has no visual affect on the world. All the gunfire you might hear, there are no guns on the other end. BUUUUUT, that's not the point. The point is, to make it feel more real, or at least somewhat.

The BEST part of it, though, is NO SOUNDS ARE REPLACED - NO .ESP NEEDED. You can go through the sounds if you want, delete what you don't like, or add new ones!

Here's what you need to know to Do It Yourself:
The sounds we want to edit are in here.

\Fallout 3\Data\Sound\fx\amb\~regions\insects\wasteland\rustle\

Don't name anything lower than "amb_insects_wasteland_rustle_11.wav"

\Fallout 3\Data\Sound\fx\amb\~regions\insects\wasteland\cricket\

Don't name anything lower than "amb_insects_wasteland_cricket_16.wav"

Mono sounds have "distance", so it's what I used for stuff like the rattlesnakes. Mono sounds don't "move", so you can move away from where the sound comes from and it will fade. Stereo sounds have no "distance", so you hear those perfectly fine at any range - use those only for distant sounds, or sounds like the mosquito, which always bugs you but is very close.

Make certain that you follow the naming convention. amb_insects_wasteland_cricket_16.wav
amb_insects_wasteland_cricket_17.wav
And so forth.

Cricket sounds can appear at day or night, but tend to be at night, I suggest using "night" type sounds in there.

Rustles can seemingly happen at any time, but tend to be during the day.

Keep in mind that the sounds are 100% random - you can easily get the same sound playing multiple times in a row, or very long strings of sounds together, or sometimes moments of total silence. I recommend keeping sounds relatively short because of this.

If YOU have any sounds you'd like me to look at, work with, or see if it's good enough to add, post a comment, tell me what the sound is, or host it on Mediafire or Wikiupload or something so that I can get it.

Most of these sounds are borrowed from S.T.A.L.K.E.R., with a few from me.

Thanks:
GSC Game World for S.T.A.L.K.E.R. (But only ShoC, Clear Sky sucked), and for letting people use their resources.
Myself :P
